The Hyrule Historia isn’t very accurate imo (it wasn’t written by the developers), but the games themselves make it abundantly clear that these are all separate tales in one long history.

The ones in BoTW are a separate tribe of Rito, they didn’t evolve from the Zora.

That’s really not true at all. The Sheikah technology is established to be able to see into/pull from other timelines. That’s how the outfits and so on are able to appear.

It was already (essentially) revealed that they’re related in the games 20 years ago. They were just never sisters. Rosalina is likely Peach’s indirect ancestor.

Yeah, when people hear what he has to say they’ll listen to it over the actual writers and artists who worked on those games, which bothers me. The developers for these games do care about their continuity! You can’t just say you want to change that without considering the broader context.

From my review of the movie, but I think it applies to how people treat Mario fans in general. Just because canon is loose and fun, doesn't mean it isn't without total structure, and doesn't mean people can't care about what has already been established!

Nintendo does and always has cared about the lore of their characters. They have character consultant teams and special developers whose job it is to make sure things stay consistent.

Miyamoto, not so much. He never has seen the importance of story.

Pauline is acknowledged as the same character as the original in games like Odyssey and Mario Kart 8… so that would definitely be unprecedented, but nice idea for a workaround

i know thinking too hard about continuity in mario and mario-adjacent games is a fool's errand, but if there was a new mario game and they were like "btw luigi is a kid. but mario is still an adult" with no explanation in the trailers i think this would understandably raise some questions

All the other cursive text translates pretty directly, some of it's just harder to make out

Can anyone decipher this cursive script Olimar’s Voyage Log 36. Pikipedia says the first two lines translate to “special relativity” and I’m inclined to believe, but it’s the third line that’s a mystery. The best I can get it to is “somet?tm” but that’s obviously not a word.

This is very good! Though the Weapon World is never said to be another dimension (and is more likely to be another planet) and crossover characters in Mario Kart are canon.

They’re all explicitly one universe. There’s just one Mario timeline

It’s a pocket universe that copies the real world, so it isn’t really relevant here. The world within the book would also have a dimensional layout like this.
