Simply Preaching is really fun!

Falling Upward required the most from me in terms of discernment.

Just to add: I enjoyed everything I read this year except The Outsider (which I think I just didn’t understand). I found CS Lewis disappointing because I had high expectations. But I think everything I read except The Outsider was worth reading.

Oh I quite enjoyed it, but more to my surprise I enjoyed The Old Man and the Sea — which is about an old man at sea for days and days and should’ve been boring (to me) but I found it gripping.

The Jubilee Gospel and Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes are the ones that have stayed with me the most. I learnt a lot from Advent. I was moved / distressed by the 2 autobiographies I read. And just finishing One With My Lord now, which I have really enjoyed.

These were just my reads — I wouldn’t recommend them all! I think I’m traumatised by Of Mice and Men! I didn’t get The Outsider at all. And surprisingly I didn’t really enjoy A Year with CS Lewis…

24 books read in 2024.

Highlights:

— The Jubilee Gospel (great read for those wanting to understand the name @jubileeplus.bsky.social)

— Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes

And yes, I read my own book! (In a studio, recording the audiobook, out 10 Jan 2025 with SPCK.)

Read what happened when, 45 years ago, a man holding a frozen chicken knocked on the door of Rob & Dianne Parsons’ home. Beautiful.

I’d highly recommend keeping a 5-year journal. I’m 3.5 years in and it brings me so much joy as I look back with wonder and amazement at what Jesus has done in me and around me.

The Lord has dealt bountifully with me! (Ps. 116:7)

Screenshot from article reads:

I find it fascinating that we flock to visit a baby but flee from visiting people with dementia. We say: “She doesn’t remember me”, or: “He won’t even recall my visit tomorrow”, as if their lack of remembering is grounds for us forgetting about them, too.

Yet what baby remembers their visitors?

Yes. This is a really good point. Why do we have this odd double-standard? (I confess, I have it too.)

A great, brief, thought-provoking, helpful post.

The secret to joy this Christmas Find your joy in giving, not receiving this festive season, says Natalie Williams

If your Christmas is characterised by abundance rather than lack, what can you give, share or do to make someone else’s day a cause for joy instead of sorrow?

How is the relationship between euthanasia and social isolation (+ autism & #LD) playing out in mainland Europe right now? This is the tragic story I began my #LD & Poverty seminar with at #CTCC24.
