think it would be our sign to retire from football if this happened

In a really pathetic way, if we go down the year arsenal win the PL and or CL it effectively ends the rivalry on a certain level... feels like they will have very much 'won', at least for our lifetime.

i wish it were possible to somehow impress on more people—even within the game—that a football club is *not* a business, a more apt analogy is that it’s akin to a home; for most owners, a club is just an asset like a house that you expect to rise in value over time but requires annual upkeep

I'm sure the club won't liquidate in the immediate future, but it's starting to feel all a bit 'scooping water out of a sinking boat'

We're still in tonnes of debt (one of the higest amounts in the PL iirc?) and cashflow is going to be roughly halved across pretty much all areas of our operation. Going to make life difficult when considering squad building etc - it's all just firefighting in trying to keep afloat, not building.

nah this is just him speculating based on the overall approach that he's witnessed to 'issues' at Spurs down the years

Never happening. Friend of mine who is tenuously ITK says they'd sooner spend five years in the Champ trying to come back up in their way than spunk money or sell up for a cut-price.

Then if we do come back up, surely we're too hamstrung by debt to make a good fist of building a team that can stay in the Prem anyway...and the cycle continues? Yes I'm spiralling, but I don't see relegation as anything other than an existential threat for Spurs.

Even if we have a fire sale of the first team, highly unlikely we'll be getting back what we paid, so there's a debt deficit there. What room does that leave us to buy players to supplement our academy talent + fringe players (Danso et al). I know parachute payments exist, but doesn't add up surely?

Trying to figure out how Spurs will be 'financially okay because of non-matchday events' when we have hundreds of mil outstanding on stadium, infrastructure and transfers which are no doubt accounted for on the understanding that we're a top half PL side playing in Europe at least every other year.

Genuinely not trying to be a doomer as I don't think it helps anybody at times like this, but fucking hell.

Really could do without all this Spurs relegation lark set against the backdrop of Western civilisation teetering on the brink of collapse you know.

Donate to Spurs Against Colorectal Cancer, organized by Iain Sawyer Tottenham Hotspur supporters know a thing or two about sticking together. When someone in … Iain Sawyer needs your support for Spurs Against Colorectal Cancer

🎗️ Colorectal cancer sucks. It changes thousands of lives every year.

One of our own, @george-miller.org, was diagnosed a few years ago.

This CRC awareness month, a few of us decided to call on the Spurs community to help us raise funds for @ccalliance.bsky.social in Dustin’s honor.

Not at all man, great listen (albeit a painful one 😅) - refreshing to hear non-Spurs affiliated media manage to accurately critique the club in a constructive fashion. Not a surprise, anyway, you guys are top tier.

Not a huge surprise, but Stadio’s Tottenham (sort of) special absolutely nails it - @okwonga.bsky.social @ryanhunn.bsky.social 👏

Tottenham Hotspur means everything to us. It always has.

Generations of us. Families. Friends. Strangers.
Brought together by the same badge, the same community, the same pride. With one job, to support our team.

Time for reflection comes later. Right now we’re in the run-in, with big games ahead.

So, to our team, our players, our coaching staff, our team behind the team, our club: We're not going anywhere. We are with you.

From the atmosphere in the stands, the belief in the streets, to the roar the players walk out into.

For every remaining minute of this season, we are right behind you. We’ll be there for every step and we’ll be your 12th man throughout.

You will hear us.

To every single player wearing our shirt: We walk out with you and we remain behind you - whatever may come.

We can’t control what happens on the pitch. But we’ll provide everything you need off it. We believe in you.

This is our club.

All together, always.

I actually really detest the 'it's only football, there's stuff happening in the real world' attack on people being sad about Spurs - it's fucking dense and disingenuous.
