Definitely not universal, but I do the same thing for sure!
Finding out what the game is I feel is half the fun, or any piece of art for that matter.
Maybe I'm just doing stuff backwards, but I'm never disappointed. 🤔
I just do what feels good or right for the game and then it turns out pretty cool most of the time, haha.
It's more like I'm discovering my game as I make it, and it's always a joy to see where they end up!
I'm not sure why that would be, but this is very different from my experience making plenty of games of different sizes over the last 15 years.
But I design very little to begin with, and I rarely have more than a loose vibe, mechanic or a fun character when I start!
