Arm topology reduced using the multiresolution modifier in Blender

If you're importing a remeshed sculpt to Blender, use the Multires modifier's Rebuild Subdivisions. Instead of saving every vertex it then saves the lowest resolution with the instruction to subdivide. I just used this to reduce a Retopoflow user's file size by about 1.5 GB.

The Extra Mesh and Curve Objects UIs were bugging me, so I went through and modernized them both. Give classic add-ons some love too! Update now on the Blender Extensions platform.

The next version of Render Raw will have a layer system, the ability to use as many correction nodes as you want, and a fully customizable clipping preview!

Well hopefully now the trajectory will be nice and smooth :)

The Blender modeling tip of the day is that you can preserve curvature in loop cuts by using the Smoothness property.

You can also set this by Alt Scrolling before confirming the cut, but there's no visual feedback so it's not super intuitive that way.

I commented on a post on Right Click Select, enthusiastically agreeing with the author and also suggesting an improvement... only to notice after linking it to someone else that the author was me 5 years ago. Bet that looked totally sane 😂 🤦

Merry Christmas, from the RetopoFlow team! We have a new build of RetopoFlow 4 alpha for you. It has PolyPen, Contours, Tweak, Relax, and a massively upgraded Strokes tool, all right in Blender's Edit Mode.

Which of these layouts do you prefer?

Most seem to use a variant of the Follow Active Quads algorithm, so that would explain it! Non-quad topology should still be possible to do automatically, but it's a big entirely separate can of worms that I want to figure out

What Blender add-on is the best at straightening UVs? Are there any cases where it fails or needs improvement?

Thanks! I think Blender is largely still focusing on making the building blocks for things like the compositor and geo nodes, which is necessary and important, but it means that for a lot of tasks there is some (or a lot!) assembly required.

It is weird that the Blender version shifts more than the OG version from GitHub. Even a hue shift back can't fix it? I suppose perfectly reproducing branded colors is where the PBR Neutral transform would save the day.

I've updated my theme, Minimal Dark, for Blender 4.3. It has a lot of downloads but not many reviews, so consider leaving a rating if you like it. Thanks!

Yeah, unfortunately if you're compositing in another app it's unavoidable :/

Thanks Spencer!

One benefit of keeping it in Blender is that you avoid the whole intermediary file format, color conversion, and compression fiasco that can drop kick quality. So many people I've talked to will save out a PNG to edit in Lightroom😭 RR is way faster and retains the full quality!

The default Blender view transforms Standard, Filmic, and AgX compared with Render Raw edits on top of AgX.

You can get the colors you want right in Blender, without opening Photoshop, Resolve, or Affinity! It's kind of a PITA to set up manually, but Render Raw does it in one click and makes color correction actually fun. It's 30% off right now: blendermarket.com/products/ren...

Hmm, for a laptop then maybe I'll go for portable with long battery over power and save rendering for the desktop. Thanks!

It would be! I used one in college, but that was back when Blender and Maya were both kinda glitchy on it haha

Anyone here use Blender on a newer MacBook Pro? I'm considering switching for the battery life, but I've only ever used Windows for 3D. Are there any apps that you miss?

The rebrand from BM to Superhive has been in the works for a couple years now and the switch should happen soon. Hopefully all other companies / projects with Blender in their name will do likewise.
