Lots of weird discourse happening around Pragmata now so I want to clarify that I have not played that game and this post wasn't specifically about that. I was replaying Bioshock 2 last week.

Part of it might be that games are not good at designing child characters. It's hard to empathize with a character designed by someone who has never made a kid before and they end up in this weird uncanny-valley-type area. But movies necessarily have to use real young actors so they look fine.

There are of course exceptions to this. Death Stranding is a phenomenal Dad Game and Taken is an absolutely garbage Dad Movie.
Probably most obvious with The Last of Us, which just felt off to me when I played it, but felt absolutely right when watching the show. But "Dude Protecting His Daughter" stories are EVERYWHERE and for whatever reason they just rub me the wrong way in video games specifically.
For some reason, Dad Games often give me weird vibes in ways that Dad Movies do not. I dont know if it's a difference in format or industry or culture that causes this to happen.
