As a fire scientist, I am devastated for my many good friends and colleagues who will be affected by the mass closure of so many research stations and offices. Many will leave the agency.
USFS has pioneered so much foundational fire science. The consequences of this will be catastrophic.

We have to aspire to something higher than pushing an encampment around the corner so it’s a problem for a different block.
This is in ARIZONA, folks. Clean energy is popular!

Tried to paint realism based on a shoebill's photo :P

Trikes are a great option for anyone who wants to bike through the winter/ice but is nervous about slipping.
INTRODUCTION For decades, Congress has vested the President with overlapping statutory authorities that allow the President to make the improvements he deems necessary to White House grounds and structures. Yet, a district judge ordered the President to halt ongoing reconstruction of the East Wing of the White House by April 14, leaving a massive excavation and structurally completed site adjacent to the now open and exposed Executive Mansion and threatening grave national-security harms to the White House, the President and his family, and the President's staff. Almost 400 Million Dollars of private donations and contributions (No taxpayer dollars are being used to build this long sought, and desperately needed, ballroom!) have already been committed, or spent, in the purchase of heavy, large scale, and other types of building materials. As an example, the protective missile resistant steel columns, beams, drone proof roofing materials, and bullet, ballistic, and blast proof glass, are largely made, being used, and/or on their way to the project. Likewise, the bomb shelters, hospital and medical area, protective partitioning, and Top Secret Military installations, structures, and equipment, are built and/or ready to be built, installed, and placed.
Trump has filed an emergency appeal to keep building his planned White House ballroom, saying it's a matter of national security.
The motion — particularly the first five pages — is unusually written for an appellate brief, and often resembles Trump's Truth Social posts.
The Trump administration has announced that the US will rewrite past climate reports, in a clear attempt to erase scientific history and undermine the consensus on human-caused climate change.
I feel like “the world passed peak gas-powered car sales in 2017” is not a widely known fact
What will happen to the 82 USFS experimental forests around the country? Many sites have decades-long experiments that are tracking how forests are changed by timber harvesting practices and climate change. As I say here, “you can't just pick up an experimental forest site and move it to SLC.”
“The last night I was a pediatric resident, a child came in with Hib and promptly died by the next day. I didn’t work for 50 years to have everything destroyed by one man.”

This is what RFK Jr. and the anti-vaxxers have wrought.
A study of 38,000 people across 75 countries found that feeling connected to nature consistently predicts higher well-being, hope and resilience – regardless of wealth or national culture.

Helene Cooper Pentagon reporter Hegseth slammed America's ally — Britain — saying its Navy should be doing more to open the Strait of Hormuz, but spared America's adversary — Russia — from such outright criticism, despite concerns that Russia is helping Iran. "We don't need to air" out what Russia is doing in a news conference, he said.
Yell at Britain for not helping with your self-inflicted quagmire.
Give Russia a pass for helping Iran shoot at American soldiers.
Checks out.

Golly I remember when Trump said he was going to throw Mark Zuckerberg in prison. I wonder what changed?
The Trump admin butchered a $42.5 billion infrastructure bill broadband grant program (BEAD), killed all affordability requirements, offloaded a big chunk to Elon Musk, and is trying to steal half the funds to create a new slush fund for god knows what
and the press coverage is not great
Most seniors in Hong Kong do not own or drive a car, because they can get anywhere they want to with the city's robust public transport system at a taxpayer-subsidized cost of $0.26 per trip.
My parents just take random day trips for fun. That is true freedom that American seniors will never have.
Like listening to otherwise normal people talk about a bike lane or a traffic-calming measure is just nuts. You'd think a speed bump killed their entire family
This is insane.
Trump is spending $1 BILLION of your tax dollars to kill clean energy projects that would've lowered electric bills, because it helps Big Oil.
This will only help oil & gas companies & hurt working people who are already struggling to pay their bills.
Everyone talking about the affordability in the US should check out what Spain's efforts to turbocharge renewables has done to reduce the way expensive fossil fuels drive up the price of electricity.
(looking at you #mapoli)
Absolutely fucking not.

A park sign for San Dieguito Lagoon featuring a snowy egret on the feather-shaped sign. This piece shows the full design in mock-up form.
When I do art for park signage I almost never find out if/when/where it's been installed. Imagine my delight when I saw this photo on Yelp confirming its installation (and that it's actively being pooped on by the feathered residents). Yay! I want to do more work like this plz hire me! #SanDiego

sometimes I wonder why everyone on here is so on edge all the time and then I remember that we are all living with a constant stream of horrors going by too fast for any of us to process
Convinced that it’s a real issue now that so many people have essentially broken their brains by downloading gore and atrocity footage directly into them for months at a time (not just Gaza) and they have all convinced themselves that it’s the people who didn’t do this who are the truly broken ones
Antivaxxers put everyone at risk
A quote from me - “it’s pretty insulting to see scholarship used this way when the academic humanities are currently under attack from every possible angle — as though the actual people who do the thinking and produce the scholarship are reducible to their work itself, and can be removed entirely from the equation”
Went on record saying, essentially, “AI sucks, fund the humanities” today

“This moment offers us a realistic opportunity to shape the post-2030 agenda with a viable alternative that will reconcile planetary boundaries with social justice and the fight against poverty and inequalities. That’s the challenge and the opportunity.”
