We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.
This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

It’s wild when you think about what trauma does to health. The fallout is going to ripple out over generations.
We own a small business and do not charge these fees to our customers. It’s part of the cost of doing business. Sure, it costs us money, but so does a lot of what we do.
I’m still talking about it. 👊🇺🇸🔥
So not only did Trump's natsec team accidentally include The Atlantic's Jeff Goldberg in a Signal conversation about strikes on Houthis, they also used that same non-governmental platform to coordinate staffing among departments and the White House! Insane. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
Senior officials in Trump’s admin—Waltz, Hegseth, Rubio, Vance—accidentally added the editor of @theatlantic.com to a signal chat detailing plans to attack Yemeni rebels, a conversation that should never have occurred on that platform. Wild, reckless, incompetence www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
Openly ignoring and defying the Judiciary.
Breaking his oath to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States.
Granting himself unchecked power.
This is authoritarianism.
WATCH: “This is a tragedy for the free world. But first and foremost a tragedy for the United States.”
This 8 minute speech by French Senator Claude Malhuret on Trump siding with Putin and what it means for the world is worth your time.

I hate the whole "cater to Trump voters" movement and discourse. BUT, this is actually an angle for reaching out to Trump voters I could get behind.
If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.
this is the sort of thing people like aaron and myself see all the time and we understand the msm is sanewashing him, as the great @parkermolloy.com noted, when they clean all this up and present him like he's a normal boy.
for example, look at the ap report and compare it to the absolute shit
Meanwhile in North Carolina -
front page of NYT today
A private citizen, with the backing of the President, illegally shut down a major government agency over the weekend and it is not on the front page of this morning's New York Times

Digital subscriptions are currently $5/year. Come on.
OK, I'll show how I as a reporter, and experts I talked to, didn't appreciate what was coming.
I did a quick hit on DOGE after it was announced. I talked to experts. And the upshot was, well, only Congress can create a federal agency. How much power could this have? 1/

WIRED has been doing vital work.
If you’re looking to support good journalism right now, subscriptions are cheap.
To anyone who watched Elon Musk's Sieg Heil--
It's clear:
He planned to do it.
He knew what he was doing.
He reveled in it.
You know who else reveled in it?
Nazis.
I see we have the canned response fired up and ready to go. “___________ proved to be hyperbole.” Just save it and publish the next story every cycle. Audiences won’t ever notice the repetition.
Trump gets in bed with the Chinese owners, and suddenly Tik Tok isn’t “evil CCP compromised” anymore. These people believe in nothing. What Trump decides today is what they believe in today. Which changes tomorrow if Trump makes a deal with someone else to enrich himself.
Inside the Capitol Rotunda. Of course.
A lot of excitement for seemingly more waiting for others to maybe or maybe not truly make this the law of the land. I’m still with my friend Tom Hanks.

SoCal friends, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. A few things I wish I’d known as we evacuated ahead of a wildfire (that took our home in 2021) 🧵
