It was such an honor to work together, Reb. 💜 Never forget all those passionate NVC convos
40 years ago, ZZAP! invited some of the best programmers of the day (Archer Maclean, Jeff Minter, Chris Butler, Tony Crowther, Andrew Braybrook) to play one another in contest using their own games (plus one chosen by the ZZAP team). Minter won, with Braybrook coming a close 2nd.

Yoshihisa Kishimoto, creator of the legendary Kunio-kun and Double Dragon series, passed away on April 2. Initially reported on Twitter, the news has since been confirmed by Famitsu magazine. He was 64. www.famitsu.com/article/2026...
This is gonna be like when they put Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee and an entire generation of kids was like “who the fuck is that” because they had never heard of Fire Emblem before.
The heck that’s amazing
Grammarly declined my request to interview CEO Shishir Mehrotra today. But it told me that in response to criticisms, it will allow experts to opt out of the feature by emailing expertoptout@superhuman.com.
I've decided that instead of wasting my own time to see if Grammarly has stolen my name and writing for use their business, I'd just email them to opt out and make them waste some time cleaning up their own goddamn mess.

I put them at the bottom
I enjoy just organizing all of them. It makes me think of wandering the Nintendo aisle at Target or Toys R Us. This is what my subscription fee goes to.
Everyone: Pokemon Pokopia!
Me: I’m going to spend my Saturday drinking coffee and beat the Turbo Tunnel in Battletoads (still got it)
We don’t talk enough btw about the sheer number of cool ass games for the NES part of NSO. So many classics and random imports and lost gems. And Battletoads!
This is a fascinating, unguarded conversation between a young Miyamoto and Itoi, just poised on the edge of the future in 1989 and excited about what was to come.
Demonschool does this... kinda! Our backgrounds ARE full 3D, but for most of the overworld gameplay, we have a fixed camera angle... if there are no moving lights, we can cache the world to a texture and treat the whole world as an impostor, essentially doing runtime 'pre-rendering' i guess.
The NYU Game Center's hiring! A senior, tenure-track professor post for an experienced game designer, artist or industry pro with a notable body of creative work. Experience finishing games and mentoring/teaching more important than any kind of academic credential!

The best takeaway from year two was also the takeaway from year one:
People pay for original reporting. Every single time.
This post is transparent with Game File's stats and finances, so readers can know what their support leads to and to help inform my peers who are considering reader funding

Thinking of my hometown tonight
Breaks my heart to share this, but today is my last day at The Verge and I am looking for work! I'd really like to stay in video games, preferably in some kind of journalistic capacity but I can do PR/Marketing and maybe even a lil Narrative Design. Please get in touch!

Thrilled to become a paid Mothership subscriber not just to help feed Maddy's cats but also because their mission is reporting: talking to people, telling their stories, getting information that we wouldn't otherwise have... I'm on board www.mothership.blog/board-the-mo...
DAMN
Just found out my wife might be losing her job, so I'm desperately searching for work. Contract, full-time, freelance, whatever. Press, PR, consulting, anything. I have 16 years of editorial experience and have been writing about games for 13. Reviews, news, previews, guides, etc. RTs appreciated.

Vince was refreshingly kind and down to earth in the times I spoke with him. A terrible loss
This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince’s family, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work. Vince’s influence on the video game industry was profound and far-reaching. A friend, colleague, leader and visionary creator, his work helped shape modern interactive entertainment and inspired millions of players and developers around the world. His legacy will continue to shape how games are made and how players connect for generations to come.
