Not at all, I mean it as broadly as we can imagine. Brainstorm as much as you like.. even if the argument were not to rely on data/observations.

And, how far have we gone in developing any benchmark of C-tests based on mechanism (I know, I know.. what is mechanism anyway.. 😅)

Thanks! Indeed this is penetrating work. I will give it another reread though. :-)

It has been an absolute pleasure working on this, and Adam has done a tremendous job spearheading the project.

For me at least, this holds a special place. As the kernel of these thoughts were spurred by conversations whilst walking the fields of Sussex.

The thematic content includes, but is not limited to:

1. The well-definedness of Phi as a measure,
2. It's utility as a #proxy, rather than #approximation,
3. The utility, desire, and challenge of #extending #IIT to #continuous #systems, and;
4. The #unproblematic #panpsychist commitments of IIT.

🎉 📜 NEW #PREPRINT !! 📜 🎉

Spearheaded by Adam Barrett we tried to tackle some of the challenges of IIT.

We confront aspects worth delving into, with an incredible team of collaborators, inc. Pedro Mediano, @frosas.bsky.social, Daniel Bor, Lionel Barnett, and @anilseth.bsky.social.

Hello dreamers, I would like to crowdsource how we test for consciousness(?)

Do you know of any papers exploring these topics. Feel free to link anything, even if you think I'm aware of the paper (i.e., Bayne et al.'s paper, etc.).

Our latest publication grapples with how the brain could implement gradient descent by sending learning targets top-down, gating plasticity with dendritic inhibition, and updating synaptic weights with biologically observed learning rules like BTSP.

It was a privilege to be able to talk on our view of synthetic consciousness for the @activeinference.bsky.social.

Thanks for the questions! I'm excited about what we are attempting to do here.

If you're interested in some hints of extensions and future work we have planned, do have a listen.

If you were interested in the original paper, but no longer have time for reading or just like videos, I recently gave a talk hosted by the kind and erudite @drmichaellevin.bsky.social, which you can now view on his youtube channel.

Thank you enormously for having me!

A behind-the-hood metric of synergistic emergence applied to neurodegeneration. Well done @keenandown.bsky.social and team!

A next step would be to apply this to firing rates underlying the fMRI (totally not hinting at a collab) ;-)

Quantifying emergence in neural populations. Great to see this preprint out by Hardik and co!

Very nice results. I love the use of the Izhikevich neuron.

Complements nicely prev. work colleagues and I published on a *different* measure of emergence in biophysical neural models (see next comment)
