Not at all, I mean it as broadly as we can imagine. Brainstorm as much as you like.. even if the argument were not to rely on data/observations.
And, how far have we gone in developing any benchmark of C-tests based on mechanism (I know, I know.. what is mechanism anyway.. 😅)

Niccolo, thanks!! This is perfect
Thank you, kindly. I will relay it on. Your opinion means a lot, Bjorn!
Thank you kindly! Let's chat about it at some point. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks! Indeed this is penetrating work. I will give it another reread though. :-)
It has been an absolute pleasure working on this, and Adam has done a tremendous job spearheading the project.
For me at least, this holds a special place. As the kernel of these thoughts were spurred by conversations whilst walking the fields of Sussex.
The thematic content includes, but is not limited to:
1. The well-definedness of Phi as a measure,
2. It's utility as a #proxy, rather than #approximation,
3. The utility, desire, and challenge of #extending #IIT to #continuous #systems, and;
4. The #unproblematic #panpsychist commitments of IIT.
🎉 📜 NEW #PREPRINT !! 📜 🎉
Spearheaded by Adam Barrett we tried to tackle some of the challenges of IIT.
We confront aspects worth delving into, with an incredible team of collaborators, inc. Pedro Mediano, @frosas.bsky.social, Daniel Bor, Lionel Barnett, and @anilseth.bsky.social.
No, I haven't actually read this, thanks so much @johanneskleiner.bsky.social! 🤗
Yes! Lads, please give me your best @wanjawiese.bsky.social, @niccolonegro.bsky.social
Hello dreamers, I would like to crowdsource how we test for consciousness(?)
Do you know of any papers exploring these topics. Feel free to link anything, even if you think I'm aware of the paper (i.e., Bayne et al.'s paper, etc.).

Very nice! Will be looking into this with interest..
In episode 886, I talk with Dr. Randall Beer about autopoiesis, enactivism, dynamical systems, and evo-devo approaches in #Biology. #CognitiveScience #Science

Our latest publication grapples with how the brain could implement gradient descent by sending learning targets top-down, gating plasticity with dendritic inhibition, and updating synaptic weights with biologically observed learning rules like BTSP.

It was a privilege to be able to talk on our view of synthetic consciousness for the @activeinference.bsky.social.
Thanks for the questions! I'm excited about what we are attempting to do here.
If you're interested in some hints of extensions and future work we have planned, do have a listen.
Happy to share our preprint mapping the structure of theories of consciousness and their predictions, with @edenelbaz.bsky.social, @shaifischer.bsky.social, @maorschreiber.bsky.social, and @liadmudrik.bsky.social. Accessible here: osf.io/preprints/ps...
Supplementary: osf.io/9xug8/overview
This will be top! C'est top! You should definitely apply to give a kick ass talk, hang out with fellow mathy nerds, and chat cool stuff. #MoC7 #AMCS #slay
If you were interested in the original paper, but no longer have time for reading or just like videos, I recently gave a talk hosted by the kind and erudite @drmichaellevin.bsky.social, which you can now view on his youtube channel.
Thank you enormously for having me!
@jaanaru.bsky.social
Sounds fascinating, with terrific references. Looking forward to reading 😊
Seems very nice and relevant..
A behind-the-hood metric of synergistic emergence applied to neurodegeneration. Well done @keenandown.bsky.social and team!
A next step would be to apply this to firing rates underlying the fMRI (totally not hinting at a collab) ;-)
Quantifying emergence in neural populations. Great to see this preprint out by Hardik and co!
Very nice results. I love the use of the Izhikevich neuron.
Complements nicely prev. work colleagues and I published on a *different* measure of emergence in biophysical neural models (see next comment)
This has wide reading consequences that break down categorically defined sleep stages, look into the information processing capabilities, and relate them to predictive mechanisms in electrophysiological signals.
Feels like a natural connection, and extension of work done by friends and colleagues here in Paris, Basak Turker Delphine @oudietted.bsky.social, and co..
An absolutely precision-oriented read from the wider team of @canalesjohnson.bsky.social and co. on the information processing of prediction errors--an already high feat. They go further, relating it to environmental stimuli across sleep stages.
This is shaping up to be a great event with top speakers. If you’re interested in the continuity of minds it’s well worth checking out.

A fun, very Jaan-like, and inspiring discussion about some principles outlined in our most recent paper on #biological #computationalism.
The clear mind of @jaanaru.bsky.social at it for @thetransmitter.bsky.social
