Hi, I'm Alexis. 🧠 I'm a neurophysiologist by training and mostly post Neuroscience, but also lead a team of science SMEs at MathWorks supporting other Biological sciences, Chemistry, Geoscience, Mathematics and Physics.
I'm also a proud pre-scientist pen pal and recommend it!

Symbolic ‘science fair’ showcases research cut by Trump team Democrats hosted a protest event featuring ‘things we’ll never know’ because of the US government’s cuts to science.

A different way to protest.

Researchers presented posters on how their terminated projects would have benefitted society.

Many of the scientists presenting were a few years into their projects before their funding was cut — wasting money already spent.

Canceled grants get the spotlight at a Capitol Hill 'science fair' On Tuesday, scientists held an event organized by House Democrats in which they stood in front of posters outlining their work — and the federal cuts that now threaten it.

You know you hang with a certain age group when "Kragle" and "Pass the Parcel with Lucky's Dad's rules" come up in conversation and nobody misses a beat.

Is Waze smart enough that we could ask for a button to say, "I'm stuck behind a vehicle going X mph slower than I want to. Based on the route I'm on, what's a route, even if it's longer by distance, that can help me make up time?"

Only a bit delayed to say, welcome!
I learned #Psychtoolbox and used it for an auditory psychophysics experiment back in 2008, then caught up to the latest at #VSS2024. Such a key #MATLAB tool for #Neuroskyence

Question for people going from intan based ephys to neuropixels. Do you have an alternative for the accelerometer from the intan headstage? That was a nice feature that is missing on freely moving neuropixels recordings 🧠📈

Some favorite practical summer courses are the ARTCs at the MBL in Woods Hole, MA. I anticipate visiting a few this year to talk #Neuroskyence, sharing #openscience data stories, and using #MATLAB.

The wonders of population coding! Recent paper by @juliencorbo.bsky.social et al. @polacklab.bsky.social -> visual cortex in trained mice encodes orientation differently from in naive mice... almost more "messily"(?)... but behavior is good. #neuroskyence #matlab 🧪 🧠

It takes a few rounds to figure out what makes sense to quantify and then try to predict. What helps me is thinking about doing an activity (e.g. running a WB) for a reason... because it has an expected *outcome*, not just doing it for the sake of doing it. That *outcome* points to the larger goal.
