isn't the origin story of the shandy basically "oh shit we didn't order enough beer, let's water it down with lemonade and hope no one cares"

I don't think anyone on Threads is referring to, like, the guinness factory tour in Dublin, but you're right that *is* the original meaning of the word. I did the guinness tour in my 20s and kids were allowed but they would have been *really* bored

I think the people on Threads are talking about microbreweries, which where I live you swing a cat and hit five of them (poor cat). Some are more like bars and you probably wouldn't want to bring a kid there but others are family friendly restaurants that happen to serve good beer

that honestly sounds more fun than my threads algorithm which is all people yelling past each other over whether kids should be allowed at breweries, while being uncertain if "brewery" means "drunk alcoholics getting loudly shitfaced all day long" or "hipster applebees"

No it was a whole thing even then, where being sn introverted homebody was almost treated as a sign of moral superiority, like a lot of people would unironically post things like "I don't even *want* to see my friends, that's how pure I am"

I missed a flight once and they charged me like $50 to get on the next one an hour later and I was grateful it was just that. This was like 10 years ago though so it's probably more now

I don't know if other places did this but the local pop radio station in NYC played a version of this song remixed with 9/11 news clips constantly for like a month

They did a giant poll on reddit to see if every pokemon was someone's favorite and apparently the only ones that got zero votes were smoochum and gothita who would, frankly, get you placed on some kind of registry if you admitted liking them

I am so picky about book lengths because the big 700 page door stoppers admittedly strain my ADHD, however I also struggle with short stories and novellas because if I'm GOING to emotionally invest I want the story to stick around long enough to make it worth it. 80-200k words is the sweet spot.

For contrast I have the teeny tiny half pound fractional plates to increase barbell weight slowly but surely

I *have* an expensive wall of dumbbells my partner scored on craigslist but I barely use them because they go up in 5 lb increments which is actually 10 pounds if you're lifting the matched pair and moving to the next level feels like an impossible barrier

Digital illustration of a pug in armor riding on the neck of a large flying dragon over a mountainous landscape with the sun barely peaking over the horizon. The dragon is a deep purple and has iridescent wings, neck, and underbelly. The clouds are orange and purple.

Yeah unfortunately I live in the suburbs and have very limited extra time to get places. I still try to take transit when I can but for practicality, a quarter of my trips is... ambitious unfortunately

I think there's a disconnect between those who personally know someone who died and those who don't. Most people are going to be preoccupied with their own problems, even if they have empathy for people whose problems are worse. That's just human nature no matter how much you scold them.

hey do a whole bunch of people want to buy my books on Bookshop or Smashwords or B&N or Apple (but not Amazon or Kobo or Itch) so I don't have to pay for Draft2Digital?

There were also a lot more people stuck inside with their abusers than the overall discourse is really comfortable thinking about

and then if you dared mention that it's slightly exhausting to be a three year old's literal only source of human interaction you were greeted with a chorus of "GUESS YOU HATE YOUR KIDS"

Absolutely offensive that the original un-remixed Libera Me from Hell from Gurren Lagann is not on Apple Music
