People’s activist series session 6-7:30pm on Thursday, 4/23 at the Jefferson School African American heritage center in Charlottesville. “Strike safe: tactical decisions under pressure”

Thursday, 6-7:30pm: come together @jsaahccville.bsky.social for a session by @indivisiblecville.bsky.social & @cvilledsa.bsky.social We’ll run some simulations about how to respond, in the moment, to unsafe situations. It’s good to have tactics ready for when problems pop up at protests.

(Also, stealth #DHmakes! bc the photo is from my showing Hannah our community printshop & her typesetting a ridiculously good Audre Lorde letterpress piece as her first thing ever. 💜 the amount of overlap between DH for public good + art/craft/making)

Brilliant opportunity—@halperta.bsky.social's vision + work have inspired & shaped so much good DH + knowledge work:

Check out @winnieepm.bsky.social's new site & learn about her work: "My craft is asking difficult questions. I believe community-making & kinship drive the world for the better." A DHer focused on design+infrastructure studies, completing a cultural studies PhD in Spanish while working at SLab:

finally, a website, but why is it static? I. Have. A. Website. ✨ https://winnieepm.github.io/ ✨

Scholars' Lab's @winnieepm.bsky.social launched her professional website! & blogged about her choice to design+code it using a minimal computing approach including Eleventy & making the underlying code public on GitHub #mincomp:

the neon labels are removable, as the paper & prints contained are going to change over time. hoping to shift the wood type (🔵 stickers) to better containers when i can to made more space, too

also why I'm selling a bunch of my good 🎨 prints for $5 this week—series w/only a couple left in their print runs, to make room for more printing (store.wolfproofpress.com/product/prin...)

stuff narrow enough to fit on a bookshelf has already pushed my books out of the way. i print too often?? (no)

Photo of a gray metal flat file, a large set of drawers that are wide, deep, and importantly shallow (about 1.25" high); they are labeled with pink and yellow neon removable stickers listing sizes of paper and titles of finished letterpress prints, as well as white labels that say "paper" and blue circle dots indicating wood type

for folks who appreciate 👀 organization, my too-full print storage: old flat file i cleaned up, as I mostly use printing paper not narrow enough for my bookshelves & shallow drawers bc can't stack too many prints (even interleaved) w/o risking ink offset, paper sticking to ink on multi-ink-layer art

I just got to test print this week my experiment with lasercutting a halftone printing block (good for replicating photos), which happened to be of a sheep—& it worked!—so #DHsheep may make an appearance in the upcoming ACH conference mailed-art packets too, if I have time to lasercut it by then

Just QT'd this with the Scholars' Lab's DH dissertation completion fellow's upcoming public 5/6 online event—Seanna Viechweg's work combines critical+ethical web design, speculative pedagogy, and Caribbean folklore+futures:

Seanna builds on her past Digital Speculative Pedagogy series & the experimental scholarly design work of building her Omeka digital archive of Caribbean folkloric figures. Her research focuses on African-American+Caribbean writers: Black speculative fiction, neo-slave narratives, & Environmental+DH

5/6, join online+free @scholarslab.bsky.social event by our DH Fellow Seanna Viechweg for a very good example of DH dissertation work right now: interactive digital pedagogy exploring how we can practice speculative reinterpretation as a way of asking "what if?" when archives fall short +

Signal boosting this because I do think the Next-Gen Dissertations site remains a useful project. The evaluation section in particular may be useful to programs looking to expand their own diss guidelines. Also contains project examples, a resource compendium, & more. nextgendiss.hcommons.org
