In Coming! Republic P-47D-30-RA Thunderbolt captured by D3s / 70-200f2.8 The sweet light is often before the sun breaks the horizon in the morning and after it sneaks down in the evening. If you have the good fortune of flying in formation, though in the wee light hours and you're launching or recovering, that's not the time not to be shooting. That's what's happening here, we are on final heading back to the airport.

In Coming! https://wp.me/p6YJx-j1a Time is everything, especially when light is fleeting and possibilities seem slim. Go for it! The least that could happen is ... delete! @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador

It’s All in the Stick Monocoupe 110 captured by D4s / 80-400VR2 Yeah, we push the shutter release, but it's only when what we see in the viewfinder is something we like. Something interesting, a story we want to share. When you're on a photo mission, it is the pilot and their skill bringing the aircraft to life that makes the image in the viewfinder come to life!

It's All in the Stick https://wp.me/pXFNo-Hh you can be as talanted and passionate possible, but if you're not in front of something interesting, hard to get the viewer's attention! @BedfordCamera @NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

It Doesn’t Come Easily American Bittern captured by Z 9 / Z180-600 w/Z2x They bend with the wind! That's the main way this 34" tall marsh inhabitant hides. It stands vertically amongst the reeds, and when it feels like it might be threatened, it stands as tall as it can and slowly sways with the reeds. It's so effective that this relatively common bird is not regularly seen.

It Doesn't Come Easily https://wp.me/p6YJx-j1y The American Bittern is a wicked cool bird! A large bird, it can blend to the point of disappearance. It's spooky cool, so when ... @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

They’re Back! Evening Grosbeak (male) captured by Z 9 / Z600f4TC As long as I can remember, Sharon has marked the start of spring with the return of one of her favorite birds, the Evening Grosbeak. The first male appeared just a couple of days ago, and now we have numerous pairs in the various feeders. We are so glad to see them, as their numbers overall have crashed, according to many researchers.

They're Back! https://wp.me/p6YJx-j0J while the calendar, sun and moon say it's spring, it's not so here at The Ranch until Sharon sees her favorite bird in the feeders! @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

At the Ready Supermarine Spitfire captured by D5 / 24-70f2.8 I love being around aircraft! There are many reasons, one of which is the history they share with us. That's what typically goes through my mind as I line up statics in my viewfinder. This morning on the ramp at KMOT (where our A2A Photo Clinic is held next month) the Spirfire MkIX was pulled out on the ramp with this one shot in mind.

At the Ready https://wp.me/p6YJx-j0n was the classic hours of boredom with seconds of excitement scenario. That's what was in my mind this morning on the ramp at KMOT. @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

Yes, They Were in the Pacific A6M2 Zero & Spitfire MIX (both WWII veterans) captured by D4s / 80-400VR2 The Battle for Darwin, Australia, was a scary point at the beginning of WWII. The Japanese were battling hard to expand their territory with eyes on Australia. This is when resources were thin to known, the allies having nearly no presence. This is when the Spitfire operated mostly out of Darwin.

Yes, They Were in the Pacific https://wp.me/pXFNo-H7 When the Spitfire is seen, it is often associated with the Battle of Britain. Well, how about the battle for Australia? @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador

A great blue heron fishes at dusk at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado. In this horizontal color photograph, a weathered log stretches across the pond from left to right. At the left of center, a heron stands on one leg, intent on the water below as it hunts. The scene is almost perfectly mirrored on the pond's surface, reflecting both the bird and the branch. Soft, twilight clouds and the deepening blue of the twilight sky ripple gently in the water. It's a striking, contemplative scene-capturing the quiet beauty of the natural world.

Before the Sun Hides Again The Bitterroots captured by Z 8 / Z70-200f2.8II Our morning drive for huckleberry pancakes was particularly gorgeous this weekend with the incoming spring showers. The wind that came with the front wasn't really welcomed, but the moisture sure is! The peaks are over 10k feet, so they squeeze the clouds as they float east. They come over the valley, and they expand again and at times, sink down, making for some great, moody landscapes.

Before the Sun Hides Again https://wp.me/p6YJx-j0g spring has sprung for sure here in the Bitterroots. And with the spring flowers keep coming, thankfully, the spring showers. @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

Hang On Buddy! Tower captured by Z 8 / Z70-200f2.8II They predicted winds that day, and we've had some big ones of late. I noticed the workman up on the new cell tower belaying tools up on the line as I walked in to get my haircut. When I walked out afterwards, a gust of wind and dust smacked me in the face. I walked to the truck, where Maggie greeted me, and that's when I heard the noise.

Hang On Buddy! https://wp.me/p6YJx-j08 it was a blustery day, we've had a few. I was watching the dust devil wiz by when I heard a noise and looked up! @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

Unique Portrait Studio Cessna 195 captured by Z 8 / Z180-600 Taking plane portraits, statics, at an airport can be challenging. You have the limitation of aircraft on the move, taxing, limiting where you can park a plane for any length of time. Then there are backgrounds. At the average airport, they suck. This is because often light industry builds right up to the airport since homes are typically not near airports.

Unique Portrait Studio https://wp.me/p6YJx-iZl just like with people, the background of a portrait sets the stage, helps tell the story. With a plane, just throwing up a sweep isn't always possible, so then? @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

Clear Blue Skies PT-17 Stearman captured by Z 9 / Z70-200f2.8II The day started with totally bald skies and no wind. The no wind is great for flying and photo missions, but the bald skies, not so much. A solid blue sky provides no visual depth, and that doesn't support the romance of flight. To say I was bummed was an understatement. Yeah, you can position the aircraft low and shoot down on them to avoid the bald skies, but that one view isn't a good story plan.

howdy! Just so we're on the same page, I don't have an "aviation sharpening action." I do have a "polish the rivets" action. This action is a play on Sharpen for Content, a tool used in printing. It DOES NOT sharpen an image.

The Small Airport Produces Big Opportunities Aeronca 4c captured by D5 / 180-400TC Your small, regional airport is a great place to practice and perfect your craft. Normally, there are no fences, which is a huge plus right from the start. Go and talk to the airport manager and tell them you're there to photograph the aircraft because you LOVE aviation. You'd be surprised at the doors that open.

The Small Airport Produces Big Opportunities https://wp.me/p6YJx-iYD easy access, lots of flying, they are the perfect place to practice and perfect your craft! @BedfordCamera @NikonUSA #NikonAmbassador #NikonPro

You will find examples of some, and if you're lucky, one is in your backyard.

Had to Make an Ice Cream Run Old Barn - Sapphire Mtns captured by Z 9 / Z70-200f2.8II Seriously, we had the urge for chocolate ice cream, and that required a road trip. OK, it's a twenty-minute drive down a beautiful back road in the Bitterroot Valley, but it's well worth it. And the light was gorgeous so the camera with the newly arrived Z70-200f2.8II needed to go.

Odd Man Out White-tailed Deer captured by Z 8 / Z180-600 Just gotten off the phone for a delightful predawn call to look out and see this big boy with what we at first thought were three big does (they should be dropping fawns in 45 days or so). The buck being a big boy, it caught our attention, so we watched. Then two questions came to mind.
