As a former Duluth city councillor, I know how important it is that our local governments are strong - from fixing potholes and staffing our libraries, to providing critical social programs for Minnesotans in need, local government touches our lives every single day.

every day is also a good day to remember the evils that fred ossanna, charles green, and kid cann wrought upon us.
every day is a good day to go on an unplanned six mile walk through saint paul, the best city to go on a six mile walk through.
richard carlbom, chair of the DFL, just called out the humphrey project for creating division in 2026
thank you for saying this @richardcarlbom.bsky.social. i think we did have a DFL united front against ICE during the occupation so i find these efforts extra tasteless in the wake of that
so many current societal ills can be traced back to the evils of The Phone
btw the convention is over i went home & my cat is confused at where I’ve been all day
and the final results from SD64! (I think the uncommitted ICE out subcaucus was clipped out of the first walk’s results)
results of the first walk
updates have slowed as we’re into the walking subcaucus process. finishing the first walk now.
the body is now singing happy birthday to rep. dave pinto, and as an apology for how out of tune we were he’s endorsed by acclamation.
another enthusiastic delegate has shared the news of orban’s defeat with the body.
we’ve rapidly nominated and endorsed rep. meg luger-nikolai, who had to go through this process only a few months ago during the special election to replace kaohly her.
and those biggest cheers of the day are quickly replaced by the first standing ovation for the day, when senate majority leader erin murphy is endorsed by acclamation!
i missed some school board speeches while i went in search of water #sorry!!! returning to the biggest cheers of the day for some news from the floor that hungarian prime minister viktor orban has conceded his election. (not mentioned: he conceded to another far right party, sorry folks!)
an announcement that pizza is now half off spurs an exodus from the gym. instead of pizza, i’m listening to school board chair uriah ward talk about the new governance & budget policies, and the work put into solving the educators contract before the beginning of the school year.
gubernatorial candidate paul ference is speaking, asking if we want to nominate a candidate who will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. ICE is still here, and we must protect our neighbors.
followed by maría isa pérez vega, wants to protect the most vulnerable, insulin and SNAP programs, taxing the rich, bringing everyone into the process.
the ramsey county d5 convention isn’t today, but the speeches are! rebecca noecker up first, talking about building a better w. 7th transit corridor, improving county services.
dan wolgamott is the final state auditor candidate. wants to protect tax dollars from going towards data centers & divest from genocide. talks about progressive bills passed by the legislature & supporting them while in a red district.
zack filipovich speaking next, was the youngest city councilor in Duluth, only accountant in the race, talking about how the auditor’s office helps improve local government services.
ben schierer up now, saying we have to be a party for the entire state & win back voters we lost in 2024. talks about building a big coalition to win in november .
(note: i’m very not impartial in this race, i’m supporting Zack!)
adam jennings up first. talking about the importance of unions & medicare for all; republicans want to talk about fraud in this race & DFL should be able to respond.
credentials committee report! 619 delegates here now. yippee! now going into state auditor candidate speeches.
lots of folks accidentally creating contested races for these positions and then someone else politely withdrawing & renominating themselves for an alternate position instead.
we now have elected a full slate of central committee directors & alternates! next up: state central committee members.
sidebar: it’s *very* stuffy in here, and almost nothing that can be done about it.
coming back from a prayer break with *huge* applause for peggy flanagan. emphasized dark money in the race & the power of the DFL process in the face of that.
back to uncontested party officer elections!
the convention has been busy approving uncontested nominations for party officers. i have been busy scrunched over in my chair filling out this resolutions sheet. sure hope all our electeds read the party platform!
the brave resolutions committee has filtered down nearly 400 resolutions to just over 100 for us to vote on today. we’re filling them out on a scantron sheet & combined with the gym i’m getting high school testing flashbacks.
senator amy klobuchar is here (& is the first speaker i can hear well!). talking about going to every county in the state every year.
some scattered boos/shouts of “what’re you doing about ICE”
mentioning that the occupation was not just minneapolis, but saint paul and the suburbs as well.
you can barely hear the chair’s gavel. dfl conventions need a bigger gavel. #letthechairhaveabiggergavel
