I'd love to co-develop project ideas on research involving paleoclimate, water isotopes, urban heat islands, coastal resilience, and/or work at the energy/climate nexus.
Two postdoc fellowships now open at @brown.edu Dept of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. One in ocean sciences (apply.interfolio.com/183855) and one in any field of geoscience (apply.interfolio.com/183852). Deadline May 1.
I've updated my El Niño forecast plume with the latest April data (ECMWF, NMME, CFSv2, Canadian models). Its now looking like it might end up giving 2015/2016 a run for its money in terms of strength, with a peak of ~2.6C in the ENSO3.4 region by end of year: dashboard.theclimate...
The Trump administration has announced that the US will rewrite past climate reports, in a clear attempt to erase scientific history and undermine the consensus on human-caused climate change.
Here in RI, we had six snow days this winter, with our district petitioning the state to waive 3 of those from a requirement to make them up. I hate remote learning, but I hate lost instructional time more.
Wow congrats!
For #NSF and #NIH watchers, Grant Witness now has interactive data on numbers of grants and total funding obligations, broken down by institute and directorate, new awards and non-competitive renewals.
The stranglehold on new awards is still a disaster.

Lots of previously unreported allegations in the lawsuit, including how NOAA also terminated a cooperative agreement with UCAR at the same time as the NCAR news, and how NSF demanded individual cost accounting for every UCAR employee that attended AMS with only 6 days to turn it around.
A line graph of the number of NSF awards in fiscal 2026 compared to fiscal years 2021-2025. The fiscal year 2026 is well below the other curves and increasing only very slowly.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It matters.
Thank you for taking the time.
Just submitted mine. Have you? There is still time - just email NSF_NCAR@nsf.gov today. ** NOTE: You do not have to be an expert to support NCAR! And you do not need to write more than a few sentences about why weather and climate science infrastructure is important to you, and to our country.**
Giving strong 2014 vibes... But in that case, just about the time we finished eating crow, 2015 rolled around with a vengeance. Maybe that will happen again this time around.
I'm a Prof with a research lab and a climate solutions course I teach every year. I also volunteer on local, state, and federal boards and committees to advance climate action. Mentees mostly work in research (academic, govt, private sector). Lots of opportunities - we need more women scientists!
A line curve showing number of awards for fiscal year 2026 compared to fiscal years 2021-2025 across NSF. The fiscal year 2026 curve lies well below curves for other fiscal years.

The American Academy of Actuaries warns that dismantling NCAR would degrade the catastrophe models insurers depend on to price climate risk—driving up premiums and threatening coverage availability nationwide.

A leading American research lab is slated to lose its critical supercomputing facility, according to a letter released by the National Science Foundation.https://cnn.it/3MoF7zU
Last December, weather and climate scientists sat down with us to tell us why they loved the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and why it benefits us all. Last night, the NSF began dismantling it. Listen to what they have to say, and why it's urgent that we #SaveNCAR wclivestream.com/act
NEW: There's been another round of layoffs at the lab formerly known as NREL.
Weeks after scrubbing “renewable energy” from its name, the National Laboratory of the Rockies in Golden has cut 134 staffers.

Today we won.
A U.S. District Court ruled that the administration violated federal law when it secretly convened a group of climate contrarians to produce a thoroughly debunked report to overturn the Endangerment Finding.
The science still matters. We won't stop.

Important update about Congressional efforts to prevent the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) from being dismantled. Last week the White House threatened to veto any appropriations bill that protects NCAR. Despite this attempt at intimidation ... (1/ )

New AMS Statement: Dismantling NSF’s National Center for Atmospheric Research would weaken U.S. leadership in weather, water, and climate science, putting public safety at risk.
