I actually looked into this more and you're so right! Waysssss easier than the paint effect. What i ended up doing was grabbing a freeze frame from where the microphone wasn't in shot and animatte around that using the polygon matte. And it worked a charm

That's my game plan. Usually I'd wait till I've picture locked to start worrying about vfxs, I just thought I'd try my hand at some temp vfx
Ohhhh thankyou! And yeah I got that impression about the paint effect. And in some places you really see the microphone others it just dips. But I wouldn't have thought to do the matte that way using the Animatte effect. Thankyou! I'll try it out and let you know how it goes

I've grown to love Avid. There's still heaps of stuff i have to learn but I like how straight forward it is. Just editing no bells or whistles

Little update. Ok so turns out you can sync the sound only if you have time coded audio. Otherwise just do it in avid. Where i was confused in my notes I forgot to write down only do it if you've got time code 😅

My favourite example of this is Dearth Vader in starwars. His face is emotionless but the cut implies the emotion. For example when he see Luke screaming in agnoy while getting force lightinged by the emperor, we cut to Vader's reaction and the first show shows he's empathising with Luke/ distort
Happens everytime you gotta pay attention to the audio. I could be doing some colour grading or paperwork nothing but the moment I start messing with audio the whole neighbourhood has to mow their yard.
Just sent off a roughcut cut to a "client" kinda nervous to hear what the notes are gonna be. I've never done anything like this before its an event highlight video. He's liked the assembly so far so here's hoping 🙏
