I think this sort of thing is deflection. Many of us are upset over current circumstances that we have no control over. So we focus on minutiae that in most circumstances would otherwise not be an issue and try to exert control over those things.

True story: I (correctly) suspected that my dog had diabetes when she had an accident in the house and, upon cleaning it up, the pee had an unusual consistency — like sugar water. My brain went 💡 and I called the vet. An hour later we had our diagnosis.
I’m literally at my wit’s end with my poor dad. Trying to find a PCP for him since he moved here from Colorado has proven to be an excursion of several weeks at this point. I can’t see it getting any better.

Best part of the day: when going through a set of protocol questions, the nurse asked dad if he ever wanted to harm himself. Dad: “Hurt … MYSELF? NOOO!”
Nurse: “Have you wanted to harm someone else?”
Dad: (pause) “Not lately.”

Had to take Dad back to the ED yesterday. Crippling panic attacks that last for hours and yet we can’t find a primary care physician for him that’s not super far away, doesn’t accept people over 45 or aren’t booked out six months! Our medical system is ridiculous.
