Yesterday I spoke at a high school in Calgary, giving the students a quick rundown of my creative career and things I wish I'd known when I was their age.

When I was looking for new frame a few months ago I tried on a pair then noticed the cameras and I don’t think I’ve ever put something down so quickly
I was contacts until I had a very tight deadline for storyboards and didnt take my lenses out enough due to the late nights. Two eyes of Sauron and swollen eyes for weeks. Messed my eyes up and not allowed them since. Which sucks
Totally. Seeing that contract and the pencils and inks the rate…..wee me had a sit down
I felt very lucky. Also the most I was ever paid drawing comics as it was prestige format book.
My first “proper” job in comics after art school was Lobo all down to Alan Grant asking for me.

There’s a time and place
I’ll never forget the hour I made it my job to stand in front of the guy wearing google glasses at a kids water park and refused to take them off. I dont care if you say youve got kids there. I did too and didnt want some rando videoing them. Also he looked like a twat

When we took it apart it was junk. Didn’t have to unscrew anything. Just a twist and the metal just came away. Pain in the arse though. Took ages to put it together

Our lovely “let’s spend a bit more and get a decent sturdy one” gazebo that is we couldn’t take the tarp off because it was way too tall but every day it snowed I went out and got the snow off it fell victim to an overnight ice storm and it just destroyed it. We’re getting an umbrella now
I’ll never forget watching a “reviewer” on a late night tv show utterly ruining the end of this film the day it came out being snide and trying to be clever but coming over quite the opposite
