I really wish more pundits saw the wide spectrum of views between expecting "perfection" in candidates and being concerned about past views or current positions. This is especially true when someone doesn't have a record in office.

I agree with this point, but I do think the margins could be a little larger than normal. Back in 2002, one of the reasons Tim Johnson pulled out a Dem win in a red state in a bad year was because there was a drought and Bush came and told the farmers and ranchers to "endure." The GOP let them down.
