It is beyond belief that the UK government is speaking to these people with a view to entrusting them with sensitive data. This is a very handy overview of why that is madness.

Scientific institutions should not too much stick to external factors when hiring tenures. The best scientist is neither necessarily the one with the most grants nor the one with the most citations.

So when he has a too short U-235 half life this influences his possible upper limit for the Earth age. After 10 half lives, practically all radioactivity has decayed, so if U-235 is abundant and both Pb abundancies are comparable, his age must be <4.2E9 and even lower if he overestimates U-235

Not sure what the half lifes and the isotopic abundances were with which he calculated. I understand the paper such that he assumes 3% U-235

Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement

Also they don't know about inflation. Inflation is necessary. Real goods are losing value over time. This must be reflected by a loss of monetary value over time. Otherwise there is no incentive to invest.

This made my day.

It hits the nail that mostly people bringing up theodicy are implicitely claiming they know what kind of acting they would expect from god. While here, gods acting is consistent, logically infinite good but nevertheless contradicting expectations.

He is already the head of 2 sovereign entities (the Holy See and Vatican City which are legally different entities), so I do not see why he shouldn't claim to represent a third. I mean, he is the only person who can prove to have experience with that.

“A crew is inescapably, beautifully, dutifully linked…
when we saw tiny Earth, ppl asked our crew what impressions we had.& honestly, what struck me wasn’t…just Earth. It was all the blackness around it. Earth was just this lifeboat, hanging undisturbingly in the universe…Plant Earth:You.Are.A.Crew.”🧪

Tonight in the ai reading group i was reminded of something that happened in 2006 after I dropped out of college, when I was living in a run-down old house next to jb alberto's in rogers park with a bunch of dudes.

it was, as you can imagine, not clean.

The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.

Best idea I have is to make teaching as personal/oral as possible.
Of course this will not work if you have too many students.

Abstract

This work look for Soret and Dufour thing on MHD flow for micropolar fluid on sheet with hole stretch, also see hot from electric and warm from move, which old study no much talk. These hot and mix change speed, hot, spin, and mix of fluid in layer. The big math changes to small math by same change and solve in MATLAB BVP4C. Picture line and table show number for skin friction, Nusselt, Sherwood. We see more M make slow speed, light heat make thick hot layer, more micro make more spin near wall. Also, hot from electric and warm from move make more hot, so need in work like earth heat take, oil get, and hot change machine in hole thing.

Before you think of paying 2490€ for open access and getting this abstract through review without someone stopping you, you might consider that you can already get a nice bicycle for the same price. 🧪

We don't need to disclose of LLM "AI" use, just as we don't need the disclose of pocket calculator use.

The point is that authors bear full responsibility for their work, be it type errors on the calculator or made-up stuff from LLMs.
