The novel I'm querying was inspired the ecology of whale falls and how those ecosystems are are inherently transient. I though "what if there was a human civilization like that."
Instead of space whales or whatever though, it's based ice meteors falling the desert.

I write a range of sci-fi and fantasy. The book I'm querying and submitted to RevPit is YA secondary world sci-fi. I'm currently drafting a romantic fantasy where enemies to lovers fight assassins and co-parent a toddler. I also write a lot of table-top RPGs.
The thing that bothers me most is that 7% of the people who "love or like" dinosaurs chose pterodactyl.
You do not love dinosaurs unless you feel obligated to point out that pterodactyls are not dinosaurs.

I also like the idea of a Federation ship exploring a new area at the same time a rival is, maybe Klingon or Romulan. The ships keep running into each other sometimes as rivals and sometimes working together.

2) There's no romance. It's not even like Brave, which is very much about not needing a romance. Moana just ignores the topic, because movies aimed at little kids don't need even bring up romances as it turns out.
Rewatching Moana with my daughter, and there's two things I find super refreshing about it, especially compared to most Disney Princesses movies.
1) She has two loving parents who are both alive. There's still drama with her dad, but not because he's evil, because he wants her to stay safe.

When I started querying I realized that I've read 100s of novels, I know what I enjoy, and that's given a rough idea of what a novel should be like.
I'd never read a query letter in my life before I started researching. Even after a bunch of internet articles, I'm still mystified.
I'd love to see all those "alpha males" who fetishize start maxxing blueberries.
And now it's 301, which is less satisfying on aesthetic levels, but actually a good thing, I remind myself.
