It is sad that even basic research needs to be defended with utility. For me, basic research is in the same category as art: civilized societies can't do without it, because we all want to know who we are and what our place in the natural world is -- questions that only science can answer.

We have a great research environment in Ecology and Evolution at Stockholm University! This is a 4-year employment & living in Sweden = free healthcare. Childcare is very affordable (ca 190 USD per month for full-time daycare per child) & pretty much everyone speaks English in Sweden. Apply!

One day left to apply! Not seeing many American applications so far, which puzzles me a little bit. If you have a four-year degree including advanced courses in Ecology or Evolution, you are likely eligible. Happy to answer detailed questions over DM or email.

I haven't seen the official announcement but would prefer to see more grants instead. I know it is not under the control of the ERC but I hope the EU manages instead to double the ERC budget. Take money away from the other research initiatives if needed.
