Had a very nice late morning chat with @benschneider.bsky.social about his new book, The Unfinished Metropolis. If you’re interested in why cities are the way they are and how they can become something different, you’ll enjoy Ben’s book. Buy multiple copies for the holidays!

China couldnt compete w/the West in producing internal combustion vehicles, so it made a huge bet c. 2009: invest in EVs & help Chinese automakers leapfrog incumbents from the West. That gamble has clearly paid off with declining oil imports & expanding auto exports www.cnn.com/2025/01/23/c... 🔌🚗 🔌💡
Excited to share findings from my dissertation project in equitable transition to electric vehicles at Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting Doctoral Workshop on Transportation Modeling. Profoundly grateful to my advisor @huyenkle.bsky.social & committee for the support!
If you’re at #TRB2025 today, please join the doctoral research workshop on travel behavior and modeling at 151B 1:30pm to hear @abdirashid.bsky.social discussing equitable transition to electric vehicles and @soukhova.bsky.social on accessibility measures. And many other interesting topics!
Interesting new report on transit costs. The data make clear the crisis of construction cost inflation in the Anglosphere.
One problem: A higher level of project soft costs, such as professional services, due to lack of in-house expertise.
Another problem: Overbuilding due to high risk aversion.
I'm on the job market this year. I study the equity and justice implications of transition from conventional vehicles to electric vehicles. I'm conceptualizing, measuring & modeling just transition to EVs in my dissertation. To read about my projects, check out my website abdirashiddahir.github.io
