"I did well in mythology. I took real delight in the mob of gods and goddesses who ruled the world in joyous nakedness."

"The atomic bomb which we have to fear today is that atomic bomb which lies in the hearts and souls of men, capable of exploding into the vilest of hate and into the most damaging selfishness."

"Do you realize what has happened to us? Our very sensitiveness is being so outraged by the brutality of the moment that it is very difficult for us to have a reverent regard toward anybody, even ourselves."

Here’s how you deal with fascists and racists and bigots and misogynists:

Stand the fuck up to them.

Never buckle.

A letter from the Scholastic corporation that reads "Dear Authors and Illustrators,
I want to update you regarding the Book Fairs Share Every Story/Celebrate Every
Voice case.
First, I want to apologize on behalf of Scholastic. Even if the decision was made
with good intention, we understand now that it was a mistake to segregate diverse
books in an elective case. We sincerely apologize to every author,
illustrator, licensor, educator, librarian, parent, and reader who was hurt by our
action. We recognize and acknowledge the pain caused, and that we have broken
the trust of some of our publishing community, customers, friends, trusted partners,
and sta", and we also recognize that we will now need to regain that trust.
This case will be discontinued starting with our next season in January. For the
remaining fairs in the fall, Book Fairs is working on a pivot plan as we speak. We will
find an alternate way to get a greater range of books into the hands of children. We
remain committed

We are in a situation where 90% of the Democratic caucus is to the right of Thomas Friedman on Israel.

Friedman is rightfully very concerned escalation could lead to regional war that includes US forces and is a catastrophe for all involved.

But, most Democrats have said nothing of the sort.

I can’t type out this entire page but Klein is making the critical point that liberalism, as an ideology of capitalism, is the thinnest guardrail against fascism because its atomized exaltation of the individual is bound to fail the faithful when they encounter structural exploitations, deprivations and repressions that undergird capitalism. It really is socialism or barbarism

It’s so hard not to screenshot all of Doppleganger by Naomi Klein but this point is so crucial.

Very interesting; and reminds me that in my critique of Charles Eisenstein’s work, which preceded even the pandemic, I told him he had no real analysis of power, history, or structural oppression; and certainly not systematic racism.

Dear Republicans Getting Death Threats,

Awful. Political violence and threats should have no place in our society.

The way you stop that is by stopping the political march of the people issuing death threats, not by encouraging and empowering them.

what's incredible to me is how this guy and his fellow travelers are basically incapable of writing anything of actual substance. it's just endless discourse on the discourse.

The Coronavirus Still Doesn’t Care About Your Feelings The Covid-19 pandemic is not a state of mind—and telling us not to panic isn’t healthcare.

Despite the end of the Public Health Emergency, C*vid remains a pandemic by definition. Yet the media has uncritically advanced the idea that if the public appears to be tired, bored, or noncompliant w public health measures, then the pandemic must be over

I’m at #TEDWomen2023 and this white dude just lost his mind when I suggested that white supremacy is connected to the climate crisis.

After 25 years of thinking about the intersections of ecology and social justice, I forget that some people are still living in 1940.

Bono not bothering to check whether Dr. King was assassinated in the morning or the evening in his Hit Song Tribute to MLK really encapsulates the careless treatment of King's legacy.

It obfuscates even as it acknowledges.
