On the same day that the US’s lowest fertility rate in history was announced, I found out that my employer’s fertility insurance benefits are considered taxable income. So if insurance pays $20K for your IVF, you have to pay taxes on that $20K.

The ruling class hates us all so much.

Super interesting trends, particularly declining social media use among young folks.

Overall social media use is also declining.

Between 2020 and 2024, more Americans — especially the youngest (18–24) and oldest (65+) — report using no social media at all.

A small group of heavy users remains, but the middle is thinning out.

Was so grateful to be in conversation with Stevie Wilson and @emanabdelhadi.bsky.social at Haymarket House tonight. It was a full house and the conversation was beautifully facilitated by our friend Dana Blanchard. We talked about Read This When Things Fall Apart and how to stay human in these times

Walked into Always Here bookstore on Williams here in Portland, for the first time! Really great selection, superbly curated and arranged. Bought a couple of books. Would've bought more, but on long walks I can only buy two that fit perfectly balanced in my jacket pockets.

A promotional graphic for a virtual event at Firestorm Books on April 26th at 2pm ET. The image features the cover of Jarrod's book over a photo of sparks flying. The book has an orange cover with an apocalyptic illustration of Minneapolis' 4th precinct in flames, riot cops, Trump standing Christ-like in front of a cross, a tiki torch bearing fascist, Pinhead from the Hellraiser franchise, and a handcuffed arm reaching to escape the chaos.

Among many great points, addresses false claims made by critics of the resolution
1) that the boycott petition excludes people based on nationality. False the boycott is of institutions.
2) that ASA hasn’t taken positions before. Also false. Ukraine, same-sex marriage and more.

Unbearable to watch footage from Beirut yesterday. Israel explicitly breaking the ceasefire to drag us back into a war that already cost the world so much. When will it stop? Only once the US withdraws all military, economic and political aid to Israel.

When I spoke to one of my displaced cousins in Beirut today, he said: “Now that Israel isn’t sending its warplanes to bomb Iran, they have a lot of extra time to bomb us”

How One Virginia County Turned Data Center Money into Affordable Housing Many data centers are abhorred by nearby communities. But county leaders in Henrico are trying to turn them into a communal good.

my local gov halted new data center development and is pouring the net revenue from existing sites into affordable housing. this has been a far more productive use of the revenue than other localities, which have largely used to it cut property taxes (in a state with fairly lower property taxes)

400 dead so far, over 1000 injured, dozens and dozens missing. This is one hour into the massacre. I have no idea what the death toll will be in the end. Also, they have announced “another wave” of attacks coming

No relief for anyone in Lebanon. Israel is hammering Beirut so that Bibi can appear independent of Washington to his fanatic murderous base, a base that can only be sated with Arab blood. Hundreds of casualties just in the last 12 hours. Israel is the most dangerously country on earth.

But why not establish your opposition? The leaders of the party have been largely silent on this war.

I'm the daughter of an Army paratrooper who refused orders during our illegal invasion of Vietnam back in the day. He went to LBJ military jail.

Dad taught his girls this: "Just following orders" is NEVER any excuse for anyone who's complicit in war crimes. You MUST refuse heinous orders.

Only 50 of 214 House Democrats are calling to impeach a man who has openly declared intent to commit genocide in the most unpopular war in this nation's history. Truly this party has no desire to save itself. Baffling.
