There should be something where you get money just for being alive on account of you need it to live
BREAKING - Zarah Sultana MP exercises Parliamentary Privilege to expose the unjust nature of the Filton 24 re-trial.
UK press has been court ordered not to publish these details.
“If convicted, they and 18 others will be sentenced as terrorists, but the jury will not be told that”
Yet again we see the logic of the sexual abuser: if only you'd just shut up and not made such a fuss it would have been over by now and we wouldn't have had to get so violent about it
94% of votes counted, with a clear 2/3 majority for Magyar's Tisza projected.
And not to spoil the mood, but the new parliament will be composed solely of right- to far-right parties. Next to the right-wing Tisza and far-right Fidesz, extreme-right Mi Hazánk also seems to have won 7 seats. #Hungary
"Europe! Europe!" - chants the crowd.
This is great to see.
What kind of things would you expect? Do you mean shoring things up for his post-political life or do you mean vindictive vengeance and score settling?
Orban’s defeat also removes a major part of the far-right populist infrastructure worldwide, which I wrote about this fall: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Yet another generation of leftists holding their nose and doing the right thing. Hopefully we can build a future where the left might vote for politicians with leftist principles sooner rather than later
Yes! The futurespective
"After three hours, a record 16.89% of the electorate had voted, a dramatic six-point increase on four years ago"

Russian-occupied Oleshky, Kherson region.
Yet another city destroyed by Russia's "liberation".
Russia is effectively keeping the city under blockade: without fuel, electricity, medicine, and food. About 2,000 people currently remain in the city, including fifty children.

I've been reading Escaped Alone again and I got to the bit and it's never not satisfying but maybe it's particularly satisfying this week
The death toll in Lebanon is now 2,020 with 6,436 injured
It's as if 'political ambition' is on some gut level deeply relatable to the media class
America's oil execs have pocketed $1.4 billion selling stock during the Iran war, the WSJ reports
This cash windfall won’t go primarily toward yachts and private jets, but toward political campaigns and lobbying orgs dedicated to blocking climate policy and fueling authoritarianism
"When I don’t know what to do, I often check in with myself about what I do know. I know that simply reenacting normalcy while the president threatens to wipe out civilizations is wrecking us."
There is something in this that I've been trying to articulate for a while about bias as authority - where a new kind of deference has emerged that's framed as "even this person thinks so" and the more biassed you are (read: the more morally bankrupt) the more authority you're given
Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent in Gaza, Mohammed Washah, was killed after an Israeli drone targeted his vehicle.
"I am tethered, not just by romance and hope, but in a global web of heartache and loss. If I get to claim the connective power of the train, I have to also accept the connective horror of the bomb."

I cannot keep track with how many notifications I'm getting from all over Beirut and south Lebanon right now of the places that Israel is obliterating. There are multiple reports of multiple massacres in the past hour alone.
Massacre upon massacre in Beirut in the last hour. AUBMC announced a “code disaster.” Over 100 airstrikes in 10 minutes across the country. One hit right behind my house. Sirens ambulances & the smell of sulphur. The city is in total chaos the people in complete panic

A book to read today and everyday
I was going to write today, but until we know more, I don't have any new words for this moment. What I will say is that if you are reeling, and you know you want to be part of making things better, Mariame Kaba and I wrote a book for you. I hope it helps.
Families in Tehran are taping up their windows and sleeping together in rooms away from the glass. Their buildings have already been shaken by nightly explosions from the most sustained bombing in the capital since the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war. Some are rushing to buy generators, concerned that new attacks could cause critical services like electricity and water to unravel. The bombings and threats have left many Iranians living in fear not only of their own government, which killed thousands of people in a crackdown on protesters early this year, but their would-be American rescuers, who pledged at the beginning of the war to create the conditions for their government to fall. A 43-year-old woman living in Tehran and undergoing treatment for breast cancer said she worried what intensified attacks on infrastructure could mean for her healthcare.
We are terrorizing an entire country.

Just for clarity, that second quote is the second half of the original quote. Obviously there absolutely needs to be a correction though

Yet another nonsensical decision made to appease the right
