My watercolour of irises in a blue jug with a shell from 1987 (sold)

My watercolour of irises in a blue jug with a shell from 1987 (sold)

Here's one of my old watercolours of irises and other flowers in my favourite blue-tinted glass jug. I must have forgotten to photograph the original before I framed it because there are reflections in the glass. Not too bad a photo though in spite of that.

Mixed summer flowers in a clear vase with a small Buddha figurine

Watercolour of mixed summer flowers in a clear vase with a small Buddha figurine which has appeared in several still lifes since I bought it on Cambridge market about 30 years ago. That's a nice vase and I can't find it now: I bet I broke it and blotted out the memory because I was so annoyed!

At least 17 people have already died in ICE custody this year—outpacing every other past Administration.

ICE has a shameful & egregious record of violating people's rights, traumatizing children, & killing our neighbors.

Mining your own beaches because you're afraid of losing occupied territory is not exactly projecting strength. Defensive minefield on a peninsula you've held since 2014 — that's the tell.

Over 20,000 Ukrainian children have been unlawfully deported. This is a violation of human dignity.

On 11 May, we co-host a high-level meeting with Ukraine and Canada.

Our goal is to trace every child, secure their return, and ensure full accountability ↓

Irises will soon be flowering in the garden (my watercolour). I need to dig them over and reposition them when they've finished as they're a bit neglected.

Busy planting up the pots and containers in the garden so I can paint from them in the summer sunshine. This oil was sold in 2022 and most years I prop up my easel here for some new work.

The racist language this lawmaker uses is horrendous.

Also, notice how he casually opines that people with mental disabilities are "a drain on society."

Chilling echoes of the T4 program.

These incredible Buff Tip Moths blend in so well with branches that you might mistake them for sticks. Nature's masters of disguise are truly fascinating!

The image shows a male American Robin in the middle to upper right, perched on a horizontal brown and gray maple branch mottled here and there with grayish-green lichen. His head is turned to the side because he knows he has a good profile, and he also wants to show off his bright yellow beak. The robin and the branch are both fully in focus, and we are able to see nice detail of the breast and head feathers, eye, legs and even claws. Below the robin is another, larger horizontal branch in the midground that is somewhat out of focus. To the left a smaller, out-of-focus branch curves upward in the midground, while the background is filled with brownish-gray bokeh from numerous other branches in the distance.

Alan's @alan678.bsky.social theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #ABCD, so here's a American Robin perched on a lichen-covered maple branch and proudly showing off his bright red breast. Norwich VT, April 2026

The title is perfectly chosen.

Thank you for this wonderfully delicate image!

One question, though: can you tell which plant this is? A dear friend of mine would like some for her pond.
