Hi I wrote about the making of classic platformerChuckie Egg and talked to its creator Nigel Alderton. Please give it a read as I want to show there’s an audience for this gaming history stuff 🙏

I didn't post for about a month, so that may have affected my visibility. Things are (hopefully) back to normal now.
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games – No.39
Rampage
Activision inflicted some truly horrific arcade conversions on C64 gamers — Karnov, Quartet, Enduro Racer, Afterburner 🤮 — but their take on Rampage bucks the trend: tidy graphics, brilliant 2-player co-op and smashing fun from start to finish!
That fantastic Oliver Frey image (originally from the cover of ZZAP!64 issue 17) is a million times better than English Software's original box art!
I enjoyed it a lot at the time too, but it hasn't actually aged that well. In the UK, it was released initially at full price by English Software, then later by budget software house Mastertronic.
My favourite #C64 two-player games - No.40
Knight Games
A refreshing change from the usual martial arts-themed beat ’em ups, this medieval-set title boasts excellent graphics, fantastic sound effects and a variety of innovative events, including quarterstaff, archery, ball & chain and pike staff.
😄
Yes. The boxing kangaroo was one of those bizarre things in the 80s. I remember Syd Little in the ring with a kangaroo during an episode of Little and Large!
Yes. It is an odd one. Just asked AI if it can shed any light...
Yes! Very odd, looking at it now, isn't it? Never really thougt too much about it at the time.
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games – No.41
Fight Night
Big, brilliantly animated sprites, loads of humour and a 'build-your-own-boxer-construction-kit' make Fight Night stand out from most C64 boxing titles. The simple gameplay hampers its lastability, but a 2-player punch-up with a mate is fun.
😆
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games – No.42
Hypa-ball
A brilliant concept (a futuristic sport with jetpacks, a floating metal ball & a constantly shifting goal), Hypa-ball is simple, fast & great fun against a mate. A bit limited as a one-player experience, but as a 2-player contest, it’s a belter.
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games No.43
Super Bowl XX
Despite naff graphics and a woeful 1-player mode (the computer is laughably easy to beat), Super Bowl really shines as a 2-player game. Against a friend, it’s tense, competitive & great fun, with each drive a battle of strategy and reactions.
Match Point C64
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games – No.44
Match Point
Despite its naff graphics and sound, Match Point is a cracking tennis game. It’s easy to pick up and play, and the two-player mode is fantastic fun, and smashing a winner past your mate at the end of a rally is hugely satisfying. 🎾
Yes, it certainly took a bit of time to get used to the controls.
Yes!
Epic battles with Moon gravity! Don't worry, it's defo on the list.
My Favourite #C64 Two Player Games – No.45
Uchi Mata
The only Judo game on the #C64 - and a decent effort too. It takes a while to get to grips with the moves (ahem), but once you do the 2-player bouts are great fun. Perfect for throwing your mate around the gaff without risking a trip to A&E. 🥋
Both on the list.
RS is on the list - brilliant 2-player game.
The very pinnacle of sophistication.
Vienetta in a glass? Yes, please!
Yes. Thanks to @chriissyd.bsky.social for the suggestion.
New list incoming… 🕹️👀
My favourite 2-player Commodore 64 games.
Brutal head-to-head brawlers, superb sports sims and chaotic co-op classics – these were the games that gave us epic moments, massive laughs, lasting memories and forged friendships for life.
Totally. Absolutely timeless.
Welcome to March ... 1986!
40 years ago this month, Yie Ar Kung Fu punched, kicked and leapt its way onto the #C64
I thought you might like it! ;) I haven't done a fave 2-player C64 games list. It's an excellent suggestion! Will defo get on it. Thanks for idea!
The #C64 A-Z
My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.1
Bubble Bobble
Pure arcade perfection. Fab graphics, irresistibly catchy music and superb two-player co-op combine to create an experience that’s endlessly replayable. Cute, colourful and utterly addictive, it’s one of the greatest C64 games ever made.
The #C64 A-Z
My Fave 'B' Games - No.2
Boulder Dash
With clever level design, mounting tension & that ever-present threat of falling rocks, Boulder Dash is one of the most enduring & addictive games on the C64. Blending fast reactions with careful planning, it's an utterly compelling 80s classic.
