WARNOCK: What grade would you give the American economy?
WARSH: Well, if i gave a student anything other than an A, the dean would summon me because I would've hurt his self-image
WARNOCK: Consumer confidence is at a record low. That's Americans' grade on the economy

As Virginia’s redistricting referendum comes down to the wire, Steve Bannon is warning that “demonic” Democrats will impeach President Donald Trump and gerrymander congressional districts nationwide if they win in the Old Dominion Tuesday. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Trump just issued a last-minute warning to Virginians that if they vote YES on the redistricting referendum tomorrow, he will lose power:
“If the Democrats get additional seats, they’re going to be making changes at the federal level.”
"City prosecutor Marcus McDowell said it wasn’t a free speech case but argued 'no one has a Constitutional right to dress up as an erect penis and stand on the side of the road.'"
(For the record, the costume had, erm, somewhat deflated by the time of the arrest.)
“Amy Carter gives U.S. history geek Cardi B a signed copy of Jimmy Carter's White House memoir at final stop of her tour.”
"Cardi thanked Carter, 58, profusely, multiple times, giving her a hug before their meet-and-greet time was up.”

If you watch anything today, make it be this clip of @bencollins.bsky.social talking about what real strength is:
Once again need to remind everyone that the supposedly crime-infested hellhole of New York is one of the safest cities in the country in no small part because most people in the central area don’t drive. America has a much bigger car problem than a violent crime problem.
This was more or less my half-baked take so glad to see a fully baked take from @samd.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/betterci...
New, from me: Take the Palantir manifesto seriously, if not literally.
It reveals that our tech philosopher kings want public money, but without public accountability. This creates a dilemma for governments unaligned with its techno-fascist vision. 🧵

National Guard roams Washington with no end in sight to $1 million-per-day deployment

If you watch and share one thing today make at this. Why is every democrat in the country not talking like this?
In the mid-20th century, NYC planners were convinced that the solution to their traffic woes was that building one more bridge or one more tunnel would ease congestion of their epic traffic jams because the new artery would reduce pressure on the existing ones. Instead, they discovered that traffic expanded to meet each new roadway. In Alexandria we seem to believe that making our primary thoroughfares more attractive to a few more bike commuters and changing the timing of traffic signals will offset the off-the-charts increase in housing density planned for development in the coming years.
The neighborhood listserv bike lane complainers are *so close* to getting it
TRACKER UPDATE: ICE planned to pay Washington Co., MD $2/day per bed instead of property taxes. We're calculating what that means network-wide and have asked ICE to confirm if it's a national rate.
Expect a new data point on the dashboard tomorrow.

New, from me: American taxpayers will spend billions of hours and hundreds of billions of dollars — not to pay their taxes, but to report them to the government.
Thank Trump, who killed Direct File, a free tax high-quality reporting tool that IRS had built. 🧵

“Lower courts are chronically overburdened and underfunded. Taking a case to trial often takes years, turning defendants' lives into a precarious waiting game—one they may well spend in pretrial detention, unable to work, unable to meaningfully live.” www.liberalcurrents.com/break-up-the...
I find it interesting we're not even at the halfway point for the administration and they are already looking for lifeboats.
I consider that a very encouraging sign.
New — I wrote about the terror and loss of the last few days, mostly so we don’t forget.

Okay now that this is a safe space: I hate that all the bars show Drag Race on Friday nights. I just wanna go out and yap and shimmy with my friends. Preferably from like 7 to 9pm.
GAME CHANGER: Montana just found the "exit ramp" to kill Citizens United. They aren't waiting for the Supreme Court—they’re going around them. 74% of voters are on board and corporate lawyers are PANICKING. This is how we win. 🏔️💸 www.dworkinsubstack.com/p/army-secre...
The regime tried to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia in violation of a court order—again. This time, Judge Paula Xinis wasn't having it. "You can’t have it both ways." A massive judicial win against illegal deportations. ⚖️ www.dworkinsubstack.com/p/army-secre...
This is the most intense helicopter airlift since Diana Ross finishing her halftime show at Super Bowl XXX.
Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.
NEW: National poll on No Kings 3.
ATTENDANCE: 7% say they attended; 16% more said they wanted to.
POPULARITY: +10 among all voters; +22 among mods.
GROWTH: 32% of protestors were first timers. 27% of all adults said they'll come next time.

I really think Trump's Iran threat is a breaking point. We just learned that the GOP won't step up even when its leader threatens unthinkable war crimes and even genocide. This realization of powerlessness in the face of this madness will take a deep psychic toll.
