Labour will oppose any steps towards the private ownership or operation of core public services like our schools, hospitals, and prisons.

Yes I’m at the summit and will make it very clear.

We are not for the private build or operations of schools, hospitals and critical infrastructure.

Media was asked to change this. We already have private schools and private hospitals. That was what I was referring to

Just wait til they find out what’s happening with the proposed tax charity rules and how it may impact their sports clubs, dance schools, body corp, credit unions if they bank with them, unions and their professional service fees for their jobs!

Christopher Luxon has set the bar for ministerial conduct so low Ministers have to sack themselves. Andrew Bayly should’ve been gone months ago. After finding out about the latest allegation on Wednesday, the PM waited days for him to resign when he should’ve been sacked asap.

David Seymour wants to make it easier to sell our assets, hocking NZ off to the highest bidder…and he wonders why I don’t agree with him. Investing in NZ is a privilege, let’s keep it that way!

Govt are getting excited about lower interest rates and publishing some truly misleading nonsense. My adjusted design is messy, but the numbers and text better reflect the reality. Couple more importants things on this subject... [🧵 1/3]

Banking On The Future RBNZ paints a soggy picture of Aotearoa

A few thoughts on the MPS today - it is painting a picture of a soggy economy for New Zealand. We have to actively choose something better. craigrenney.substack.com/p/banking-on...

Real men don’t barricade women and children. Real men don’t threaten and intimidate. Real men don’t preach hate. Real men DO show respect, compassion & love. Real men are comfortable enough in who they are to celebrate the diversity of others. Brian Tamaki you are just a boy.

This National/ACT government are working from the same old neoliberal playbook, defund public services, run them down, then use that as an excuse to privatize them. It’s based on ideology and the people who pay the true price are everyday Kiwis.

Kiwis are delivering their verdict on this government with their feet - 125,000 gave up and left last year. That’s a person heading for the departure lounge every 4 minutes. The National/ACT agenda of slashing and privatizing will only drive more away.

Maintaining government investment in the building of social housing is a productive use of taxpayer’s money. Instead we get tax breaks for tobacco companies and interest deductibility reinstated for all landlords…not just the new builds.

NZ’s economy wasn’t in recession before the election. In the past 6 months the economy has dropped faster than any time since 1991 (excluding COVID). This is what the politics of austerity does. Nicola Willis and Christopher Luxon are clearly making things worse not better!

1 year ago 281 67 18 3

I’m no economist, but what I do recall from Economics 101 is that if the market is failing, then the Government should intervene. Bit like how the construction market is failing right now with 13,000 fewer roles and record net migration.

It’s now clear that there is spare capacity in the economy, I wouldn’t be surprised if the RBNZ cut rates harder…because it’s clear the Government won’t be supporting through fiscal policy.

Instead she gave tax cuts which for most got gobbled up by interest rates. And for those who are on lower incomes who actually spend their money in the wider economy…well they got $2.25 if they were a pensioner.

1 year ago 49 5 2 1

Instead of tax cuts, she should have kept the large government building of infrastructure, schools, hospitals and housing going. This keeps the construction sector going, which helps the manufacturing sector. This means more money in the economy through wages, salaries and the purchasing of goods

1 year ago 117 22 6 0

Nicola Willis needs to focus on getting results in the real world. The Government should be doing what it can to support and grow the economy, focus on creating jobs and opportunities, not slashing and burning.

1 year ago 48 5 1 0

After talking all year about growth and productivity, the figures show that this is not the case. We have more debt and nothing to show for it.

1 year ago 40 3 1 0

There’s no creative accounting that Nicola can do to make these GDP figures better. This amount of economic shrink in six months is a dire result.

A year on and we are in no better position. The economy has not grown, Kiwis are no better off, and even more are out of work.
