In Nixon, a community garden is starting to grow—literally and figuratively. 🌱 As Steve said, “You’re gardening more than plants; you’re gardening community.” Together, we can help this dream thrive.
“We were born this way. We are part of creation.” 🌎 Dean Barlese, a Northern Paiute elder, shares the power and purpose of Two Spirit people. A conversation about resilience, healing, and changing the world—one spirit at a time.
The West got it wrong. In Indigenous traditions, Two Spirit people were honoured as healers, guides, and keepers of wisdom. Colonisation tried to erase that, but the knowledge survived.
I spoke with Dean Barlese about what was lost, what’s coming back, and why this matters today.
“Our young people need to continue what our elders taught us. Technology messes with their mind—they don’t know how to go outside, play, or use their imagination. Culture and tradition must keep going so none of this is lost.” – Dean Barlese
Incredibly well choreographed response to Zelensky’s experience Friday. From the crowds outside, to Starmer walking far down the road to greet him with a hug, to the welcome in front of a fireplace arranged like the Oval Office. Zelensky was on the verge of tears. Let’s hope today goes well! 🇬🇧🇺🇦❤️
“I was looking for Paiute teachings on YouTube, but there’s very little,” says Dean Barlese.
The Pyramid Lake Spiritual Healing Center is here to help sustain this wisdom for future generations. Dean shares: “If you’re willing to learn, I’m willing to share with you.”
The wisdom of Indigenous elders offers profound lessons for all of us. With so much knowledge lost in recent years, now is the time to honor and preserve these teachings by listening, learning, and supporting those who carry them forward.
Honored to help share this gathering, uplifting the wisdom of Elders like Dean Barlese & many others. 🌿

Indigenous wisdom shows us the strength of mind, spirit, and body united. Sweat lodges, healing ashes, medicines, and prayer guide healing and reveal the possibility of miracles.
The world is burning. 🌍 Dean Barlese reminds us that “we’re beyond the point where we can bring it back.” Heatwaves, no more winters—it’s all happening. But maybe, just maybe, we can still act. Let’s make green energy real. Let’s fight for the planet. 🔥

“Seven generations into the future, none of this can be lost. Our elders are a blessing—they taught me so much about culture and spirituality. Now, I teach young people, so their children and grandchildren will keep it alive.” – Dean Barlese

Not keen on adding another platform, but happy to stay connected with important people moving from the old ones.
