Lots of brilliance in the room today sharing & learning to bring out the student brillance that exists and that of fellow educators. Thank you LACOE STEM Math Unit! Thank you @pamseda1.bsky.social and Dr Kyndall Brown

Last night, @talknumber2me.bsky.social and the Los Angeles County Office of Education hosted a family night screening of the math documentary, “Counted Out,” with a panel discussion including @serratore4.bsky.social and @suzannehuerta.bsky.social. Great first person stories! So fun to share!
Great showing and panel discussion. @mathlisa2016.bsky.social = consummate story teller and mathematician 💕
you'll have to share some stories when next we meet
another big time agree with you Lisa!

Thank you all for bringing your Voice to our #ElemMathChat this evening💙
A8 for me it is supporting...in particular, math field day tasks that can act as examples of what to find in classrooms for participating teachers and families, viewing of Counted Out as an entry to discussing present day mathematics #ElemMathChat
Completely agree! Adoption is the simple start. #ElemMathChat
A7 Include Play as part of staff, PLC, grade level meeting time so that play is viewed as a way of learning and retaining the learning. Also incorporate it in any all the tiers of intervention. #ElemMathChat
A6 Motivation has often been part of teacher conversations; it seems more so since the pandemic years. Grappling with how to be as engaging as their tech tools/phones/game consoles... #ElemMathChat
This is my premise #ElemMathChat
A5 is of particular interest to our CMC friends and their efforts on behalf of Gates Foundation Grant in support of adoption and implementation for various nonprofits and county offices. Need Teacher & Student Voices to use the monies in longlasting, impactful ways #ElemMathChat

More fun with geometry😂 #ElemMathChat
A4 one of the best ways I observed in a 1st grade classroom was having the practice standards in kid friendly language--eg SMP1 "I don't give up" and asking kids which mathematician practice did they use to solve a particular task. At the middle school level, I saw Qs in exit tickets #ElemMathChat
I often argue that you can teach all k-5 content via geometry #ElemMathChat
A3 "Filling in the wHoles" an insightful professional learning module I've done on several occasions that helps with a need to understand fractions as good ole numbers #ElemMathChat
For sure this is impactful for both observer and educators #ElemMathChat
Yes!
A2 More in time math coaching in classrooms. Professional learning anchored in quality time to learn, reflect, and revisit both content and pedagogical ideas #ElemMathChat
A1 the power of positive reinforcement. Sensei made me think I had earned a black belt when it was first level yellow. I took that lesson to the classroom. No matter how small, everyone needs to be seen!
Rosa, live in Santa Monica, educated in Canada, taught in Toronto, Long Beach, CA, and Santa Monica Ca. Math Champion who has enjoyed weather this week #ElemMathChat
Looking forward to capturing everyone's Voices during these grey LA skies🤣
