Not today, though

Emperor penguins officially listed as endangered 💔🐧
“further changes in sea-ice will continue to affect their breeding, feeding and moulting habitat.”

Always weird to me that a "Christian" nation measures success in GDP.
Wouldn't it be cool to invest trillions of dollars into a technology that would actually make society better?
Maybe we can call it “HI” — Human Intelligence.
Instead of “data centers”, we could fund “schools”.
Instead of *stealing* art, literature, and science, we help people *create* it.
Crazy!
Reminder: A23 is over 40 years old! But never got to tour Antarctica; too busy staying at home on Berkner Bank 😔
"You're going to need a bigger iceberg"
Our burning of fossil fuels is melting sea ice and drowning emperor penguin chicks, putting them in danger of extinction. 😱

Beautiful! From Corvallis, I didn't get such a good sky, but the Three Sisters looks grand
Nothing wrong with a well-placed Oxford comma
It'll be awkward having a US state called Iceland just across the water from a country with the same name
Pleased to have been involved in this study. I'm always keen to see how tides affect ice, and it still surprises me that moving kilometer-thick ice up and down by just a meter or so can affect grounded ice flow tens of kilometers inland.

It's been a really tough start to 2026, and no sign it'll get better. Gotta get out to enjoy the sunny days. A Hooded Merganser couple at our local pond.

It's worth at least a day off to mourn the loss
NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.
Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.
Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.
Unbelievable.
Trump administration plans to break up NCAR. Stated reason: "It's a center for climate alarmism" and "studying offshore wind turbines". But later in the article they suggest its retribution for CO gov not releasing Tina Peters

Tweet from Russ Vought: The National Science Foundation will be breaking up the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. This facility is one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country. A comprehensive review is underway & any vital activities such as weather research will be moved to another entity or location. 👇 Included is a link to a USA today story about the regime’s plan to dismantle NCAR.
I’m not a confrontational person but if I saw him in person, I would absolutely tell him to go fuck himself.
Please, watch Kimmel first, then end with Seth Meyers' eulogy to Reiner. Kimmel's right, but this murder shouldn't be tied to jokes about Trump. Seth honors Reiner and gets Trump's smallness and meanness across without pretending any of this is funny

I'm not going to AGU but this is a good reason not to. Decades ago, AGU stopped using NO for Ocean Sciences to protest David Duke. Here it's the Feds, not Louisiana, that's the problem, but you want Red states to check the Feds out of self-interest
