In the UK, they’re celebrating 77 years of the National Health Service. No matter which party is in charge, they all agree that NHS is an essential part of British life.
In America, we have crippling medical debt and 16 million people are about to lose coverage while 100s of rural hospitals close.

My car smells like Grimsby docks. Might need recommendations for a car valeting service in #Harrogate when my tour of the Northeast ends 😂🫢😷🐟🐟🐟
Labour launched its NHS 10 year plan this week.
Many have already written about it, esp on health care delivery.
My latest post looks at the plans on the social determinants health - some good news, some gaps.
The devil is in the delivery and reducing poverty.

Epic lunch at Riley's fish shack in Tynemouth, arrived in Wooler and the B&B lady said "I've left you some snacks..." 😲 (Which will obviously help me fit back in my wetsuit. Maybe the melted chocolate will be a helpful lubricant!? 😂👍)

Great few days in the Northeast. What stunning buildings @newcastleuni.bsky.social has! Some great learning and a walk on Tynemouth beach to decompress my brain after 2 days indoors.
Normal service resumes Monday.
Excellent workshop on reflections & tips on engaging government & policy makers. Takeaway tips when meeting MPs: Introduce self properly; do your home work; offer succinct policy recommendations (inc. policy brief); know current relevant parliament debates; offer help in return. #HSRUK2025
Great #HSRUK25 workshop by Gemma McKenna about engaging government and policymakers, with roleplay (how to talk to your MP) and top tips for writing a policy brief. #KMb
Great opening plenary at @hsruk.bsky.social about how we as H&SC researchers make impact on policy. Lots of useful advice: share green shoots with caveats, involve local MPs, acknowledge different timescales, ensure representativeness throughout, work with third sector to mobilise findings #HSRUK25
It was a fantastic couple of days. Some great energy and discussions, in the workshops especially. Well done all involved! 🤓👍 #HSRUK25 #SocialCare #Research #NIHR @healthfoundation.bsky.social
Sunset over the river Ouse in York
Day one done, and a stroll round lovely York to walk off the conference calories 😍
I love peonies, they are one of my favourites 😍🌸🌸🌸
Looking forward to the next couple of days 🤓

Towels folded to look like a scorpion.
Towels folded to look like a scorpion, TV remote pushes up scorpion's tail.
Might have nightmares tonight....
Also spent ages looking for the TV remote 😬😂🦂😎🇪🇬
First they came for the immigrants, and I spoke out, because I’ve read the damn poem before and I know how it ends.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

We need to call him out for the fascist dictator he is, signing hundreds of executive orders to over rule democratic process is a dictatorship. He should be arrested under his own anti cartel law. People forget dictators often don't take power by force to begin with, they're voted in.

You can get your protein fix from raw milk instead... Oh no, wait a minute 🤦🤦🤦
One day we will learn that public health is economic health 🙄
Fab day @uclan.ac.uk today for @nihrarcs.bsky.social NWC internship showcase. I presented the poster I did for my Masters module in implementation science, to a room full of people I've only met on MS Teams. Even if I'm from #Yorkshire & they made me present in front of a red Lancastrian wall 😉🌹

Swim medals
Having a little spring clean, maybe 2025 will be the year I finally do something with my medal collection. What do people do with their weekend warrior medals? I don't want something that needs dusting, they currently live in a shoebox.... 😆🏊🏅🥇💙
I have lots of new work projects and collaborations coming up in 2025 including supporting @emergentdivergence.com in their upcoming webinar:

If only we had a safe & effective vaccine, could clean the air or had masks we could use, as well as avoiding mixing when sick...
This is what happens when you minimise illnesses & confuse politics with public health. Flu kills 20,000+ people in the UK in a bad year & a lot more in a pandemic. 🤦😷
Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit! ❤️📚
Paula Beaumont photograph of Alice the Highland cow and the watercolour I painted from it.
Making a new year's resolution to try harder with nurturing my creativity in 2025. Starting by teaching myself watercolours. A bit rudimentary but enjoyed painting Alice the Highland cow for a couple of hrs. Originally from a Paula Beaumont photograph I bought a while ago. 🎨🐮
