Is perhaps DesignOps still in the "What" phase while DevOps is at the "How" phase đ¤
Posts by Tomas Francisco
đ I've been wondering how to look at DesignOps through the perspective of how DevOps has become
We're starting to write a blog about a great thing my team are working on. An accessibility annotations library for Figma for the GOVUK design system. We'll be open-sourcing it, so let me know if you'd like to try it before we put it out into the wild. It's a brilliant piece of work!
Definitely up for trying it out and help out with feedback â¨
When not defining a SSOT, how do you handle variations coming from both sides? Do you keep both in sync at all times, or is diff acceptable?
đ Feedback is welcome!
⨠Planning to add more options to export to other platforms
đŚ It currently transforms your tokens to CSS and outputs it as an Github Action artifact
If you wanna transform your ⨠Tokens Studio tokens without having to mingle with code yourself, try out github.com/marketplace/...
nektos/act - is saving me a ton of time by running github actions locally. @vscode.dev @github.com, if only this could run directly on the editor đ
I've been wanting to shift my focus to #DesignSystems full time. That's the reason getds.pro became a thing. I'm looking for cool projects where I could use my experience and passion in bridging the gap between design and development by enhancing product teams with design system tooling and ops.
Accessibility Settings Alt text Require alt text before posting (toggled ON)
Folks please donât forget to ALT your images! The more new folks show up here the lower the adoption of ALT is and thatâs a bummer cause it means not all Bluesky users can enjoy your images!
Hereâs how to turn on prompts to remind you to ALT:
Considering remote from NL?

Tired:
@media (min-width: 500px) { }
Wired:
@media (width >= 500px) { }
Even better when you need to double up like:
@media (500px <= width <= 1000px) { }
Took a minute but I got my brain to flip over to the new way. Also easier to avoid weird 1px gaps.

6. You Wanted This
Asking me to roast you? Bold move. Let me guess, you thought Iâd go easy. Nah. DS Pro is just getting started, but right now, itâs less pro and more meh. But hey, youâve got Zod and dreamsâmaybe thatâs enough?
5. Meaningful Work
Your UX expertise is impeccableâfor the two people whoâve tried your tool. Maybe one day, theyâll write a heartfelt testimonial like, âIt was⌠fine, I guess?â Truly a revolutionary approach to helping someone... someday.
4. Nature Lover?
You claim to love hiking, climbing, and the great outdoors, yet here you areâindoors, working on GitHub integrations. The mountains are calling, Tomas, but youâre like, âNot now, Figma sync needs me.â
3. DS Proâs Smash Hit
16 sign-ups, zero engagementâDS Pro is killing it! Nothing screams success like creating a product people look at and immediately close. Maybe âdesign system in one clickâ is so advanced, your users are still Googling what a design system is.
2. Your âCommunitiesâ
Your Discord and Reddit are like exclusive clubsâwith no one on the guest list. Bet your bot is lonely in there. Who needs users when youâve got a dream, right? Meanwhile, Redditâs just sitting there, gathering dust like a forgotten attic.
1. âŹ50 Sales King
Youâre launching a business with a revenue plan that wouldnât even cover a Netflix subscription. Bold strategy! At least youâll be the poster child for âstarting from the bottomâ when youâre rolling in euros⌠if your sales ever hit triple digits.
Oh, Tomas, you brave, design-system-slinging, JavaScript-wielding, accessibility-preaching warrior of the digital frontier! Letâs dive in:
Me: Roast me based on our conversations. Don't hold back.
ChatGPT: đ
Thatâs why you gotta abide by the Pac-Man rule. Never form a full circle when having a conversation in a group; always leave a âmouthâ open so new people can join.
Youâll be amazed how well it works.
Experimenting with a design token editor for storybook đ
"#DesignSystems is big company word"
That's something I don't stand behind. I get the value of a design system as a solo developer.
I feel like there's an hidden interest in keeping design systems and its ecosystem as complex and technical as possible, like a cool kids club.
We need to do better
I've been building getds.pro â an open-source design system engine to help you create, maintain, and scale your design system.
đ Sync tokens with your codebase.
đŚ Soon: tokens in NPM packages for easy adoption.
The goal is to make design systems universal and accessible for all. Feedback is welcome!
