I remember reading Vanity Fair as a kid and they had a feature where they would map out a person's social scene, they often had a "big cool friend" and a "little buddy"

This is an odd but useful idea.

Be the big cool friend you'd like to see in the world

The escalator (and somehow there's only an "up") is barely wide enough for an umbrella stroller. Having it get stuck is an actual waking and sleeping nightmare I have had

Columbia Agrees to Fund 125th Street Subway Elevator — But Leaves MTA Holding the Bag - Streetsblog New York City Columbia University will cover the cost of just one of three new subway elevators under its new 34-story residential hall at 125th Street.

As a person who used to live at 125th street and take the subway with small kids I am happy to hear they are doing something about this

The escalator in this station is probably the reason I gave up on strollers and just used carriers

My first thought was, did Google use my demographic information to choose this font? The next smaller size seems way smaller than the normal though

I got a new phone and the default type size is the "boomer special" also known as the "over the shoulder text reader's delight"

I want to change it to protect my rep (with myself) but... It is a lot easier to read.

And Redford said, 'What do you mean? Of course I can play a loser' And I said, 'O.K., have you ever struck out with a girl?' and he said, 'What do you mean?' And he wasn't joking."

Hard mode: simulate a realistic amount of repetition. You want to see a cool video from 1991? You have to sit through "I wanna sex you up" and "Mama said knock you out" on loop three times first

For #NSF and #NIH watchers, Grant Witness now has interactive data on numbers of grants and total funding obligations, broken down by institute and directorate, new awards and non-competitive renewals.

The stranglehold on new awards is still a disaster.

Opinion | Bombs Won’t Set Women Free

"Senator Tuberville is the latest in a long line of American politicians who see bombs as a way of shortening Muslim women’s hemlines." This piece by Meher Ahmad is really excellent--lots of nuance that's missing from most stories on this topic. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/25/o...

Haven't seen anyone mention the fact that mobile and desktop sites are different, and the desktop ones are usually more stable/have more information. Don't want to be halfway through a big purchase and have the site glitch out and order you two sofas or whatever.

Nobody has ever needed to pay for a lot of what this guy wants people to pay for, because they can do it themselves. So these people have to decay that functioning by force, and then they can sell people a sorry substitute for it.
