Between 1990-2024, GHG emissions in the EU fell by 40%.
In 2005-2024, the EU #ETS accounted for over 3/4 of the net reduction in GHG emissions. ETS is still the most sound long term instrument with a carbon price signal, suitable for investors and long term planning.

One dilemma from the Energy Efficiency First principle: Invest in fossil fuel in heating or rather renovations in buildings with heating decarbonisation? What should a regional plan opt for? lnkd.in/dYzE75Cb
Article (in Greek) - what are the total costs of #ETS2 for the Greek #households? With 870m EUR additional costs, it is time to promote structural investments on #energyefficiency for vulnerable groups.

Conversion losses in fossil fuel generation is often neglected in the current public discourse on energy security (and halting energy transition through renewable energy supply)...This figure shows the real picture of wasting energy through coal...
An interesting fact is that #RenewableEnergy expansion happens at a larger pace than grids and #EnergyEfficiency. To relieve the pressure on the grids, more energy efficiency is required globally, as social costs of efficiency are lower (if not negative) than energy production.
As we reach the midpoint toward the EU’s 2030 energy efficiency targets, how are Member States delivering on their commitments? Furthermore, we have one month to go for transposing the new #Energy #Efficiency Directive! Join the webinar from@ieecp.bsky.social !
For the sake of energy security, #Greece allowed the drilling of its seabed for oil and gas. The tragic irony is that although being a pioneer in #RES Renewable Energy production, it cannot make use of this competitive zero cost advantage and locks-in to fossil fuels... #climate #adaptation

#Energy efficiency is core to increase #competitiveness in the EU industries. Instead of hiding behind #fossil fuel rhetoric with unexpected medium term costs, it would be more meaningful to reduce structurally energy use in industry and become competitive.

How much would #ETS2 cost for Greek consumers?
The additional costs for households and microenterprises are estimated at 5.2 bn €cumulatively (871 m € yearly). In terms of total costs (including the fuel prices), these can amount to 82.8 bn €,almost 13.7 bn € annually.

Is this the new reality that the Mediterranean countries will face? Is the #ClimateCrisis in its #tippingpoints already? Despite the #adaptation and #resilience measures in place, more efforts are required as the speed of disaster and natural restoration cannot cope with the measures' timelines..
The increase of the housing prices is directly related to #vulnerability of population and #energypoverty, as it correlates to expenditures and income indicators. How well are we prepared to tackle this dilemma (reducing energy costs without increasing housing prices?).

80% of respondents (strongly) agree that their government should do more to make housing more affordable. In each country from the #HouseINC survey (IT, DE, FI, EE, BE), more than 70% agree with the statement. Is it a sign for policymakers to act seriously? ieecp.org/projects/hou...
The housing pressure in the private rented sector is growing. We need clear policies to alleviate #energypoverty in the private rented sector, with fair distribution of costs and benefits to tackle split incentives between tenants and landlords. The #SocialClimateFund can set such policies! #EU
Alleviating #energypoverty requires collective bottom-up actions and strong energy efficiency initiatives. Check out an interesting example from rural energy poverty strategies in #Croatia from our #RENOVERTY project.
