Use of Weapons is one of the best books ever. I think it might be my favourite book of all time.

Re-reading this for the first time in ages. It’s not the best of his work, but Banks just proves again that even not at his peak he is better than almost everyone else.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of planning, but I now write plans as helpful maps through writing a story rather than a blueprint.

I wouldn’t have planned it as much! I had everything nailed down in advance but that caused me some serious issues when it came to actually writing it.

Round about just now, 15 years ago I was working on my first full length novel - The Lies of Solace, now sadly out of print. I learnt so much writing it. Maybe it’s time to write some cosmic horror again.
