Port Washington, Wisconsin residents just voted to restrict restricting future data centers in a first-of-its-kind referendum.
Approved by a 2-1 margin, the ballot measure requires leaders to gain voter approval before granting tax incentives to date center developers.

As of mid-March, outside spending by political groups on the 2026 election reached just over $638,000, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, which tracks money in state elections — far below the nearly $25 million at this time last year.
