Congratulations to our PhD student, Ying Thong Low, for winning 3rd prize in the 2026 Crick Science Writing Prize!

The prize was open to Crick researchers, and encouraged writing exciting, informative content about their work for a general audience.

Proud of her achievement!

Cancer Metabolism: Historical Landmarks, New Concepts, and Opportunities - PubMed Cancer cells undergo changes in metabolism that distinguish them from non-malignant tissue. These may provide a growth advantage by promoting oncogenic signaling and redirecting intermediates to anabolic pathways that provide building blocks for new cellular components. Cancer metabolism is far from …

Our group leader, Prof. Vousden, has co-authored a new textbook on cancer metabolism with Prof. Navdeep Chandel and Prof. Ralph DeBerardinis. Check it out!

Sensing of extracellular L-Proline availability by the integrated stress response determines the outcome of cell competition Cell competition is a quality control acting from development to the adult that eliminates cells that are less-fit than their neighbours. How winner cells induce the elimination of losers during this ...

Very happy to share the latest preprint from the lab. We find that during cell competition, winners induce an increase in proline metabolism in loser cells, and this drives their elimination through repression of the integrated stress response.
