And another big project today: We've analyzed millions of member records from the Nazi-Party NSDAP and made them searchable and browsable.

Really strange, this is a straight-up hallucination; there's no word resembling walking anywhere in the original.
That's lost in the translation. The sentence says: "The astronauts are the first humans of the 21st century to have flown to the moon."
If all goes to plan, tomorrow night, a spacecraft with four astronauts will start its mission toward the moon - the first time since 1972. To illustrate the journey, we set out with a simple yet crazy idea: Let’s show this journey to scale. Here's the result: www.zeit.de/wissen/2026-...
One of the best articles I read this week! Bravo @polgreen.bsky.social
It’s Not Trump. It’s America. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/26/o...
I wrote about the price of the illusion of American omnipotence that’s driving this reckless war in Iran, and so much else. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/26/o...
Line charts seem straightforward, but there's a lot one can do to improve them! For presidential approval ratings, colors, averages, and annotations can make all the difference. 🎨 🪧 📈

A quick update to ziptbl.com: you can now open shared data directly in @datawrapper.de!
The video shows the full flow: load data into Ziptable > share the link > create a 📊 in Datawrapper
As always: the data stays off any servers until you send it to Datawrapper - it's just compressed in the url
I made a tiny tool for quickly sharing small datasets (< ~1000 rows) without uploading any data to a server.
🔗 ziptbl.com
It compresses the data into the link itself, so there’s no account, hosting, or storage layer involved.
Here's Florence Nightingale's famous 📊 data:

I've seen a lot of chatter today about Instagram ending support for optional End-to-End Encrypted DMs.
I helped to lead on cryptography and privacy for E2EE in Messenger and Instagram for many years, until I left around 10 months ago, so it's disappointing to see it being removed from Instagram.

Map of Canada showing a temperature heatmap derived from the weather station data using random-work interpolation.
Say hello to the Raster mark in SveltePlot! Starting with v0.12 you can use it to create raster heatmaps from gridded and ungridded data! Again, this wouldn't be possible without @observablehq.com plot 💚.

Globe of the Eastern hemisphere showing flight tracks between Frankfurt, Germany, and various destinations in Asia, including Mumbai, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Russia, Ukraine and Iran are highlighted.
With Russian, Ukrainian, and now also Iranian airspace closed, only a small passage remains for international flights from Europe to Asia. My colleague @zacys.bsky.social wrote about how some airlines are profiting more from this than others, and I created this map.

There's been about a 10-point increase in support for attacking Iran since Feb 23, according to YouGov. That's driven entirely by Republicans rallying around Trump
Second reason is that I wanted to fully control the player UI, autoplay, the scrub bar, overlays etc. With standard players like YouTube you’re limited in that regard.
I wanted to be able to adjust the video crop last-minute (without re-rendering), so I didn’t want to bake the timestamps into the frames. And I had just built a custom video player for a separate project - with support for HTML subtitles - so this was a nice use case.
And when I say "I", I mean: me with a little help from AI agents.
Don't really know what ownership means these days, as it feels like someone else is doing the hard work. So thanks to all the open-source contributors whose code made it into the LLM training data, I guess 💚
I made an animated map of ship movements in the Straights of Hormuz using data from marinetraffic.com.
Ship track frames rendered using #ggplot, base map created using #gdal, video editing using #ffmpeg, video player written in #svelte.

The White House has helped MAGA influencers escape the Middle East on a private jet while more than a million ordinary Americans are still trapped with no way out.

I’ve drawn a newspaper, and it’s called ‘The Daily News’ and the headline says “ For Fuck’s Sake, What Now?!’ and there’s an article below it with a picture of a guy in a big red tie and shit hair. Actually a pretty good drawing of a newspaper to be honest, really happy with it. Its got an imperceptible beige to it and I even did some nice shadows and everything. Nailed it.
Today's episode in the series of beautiful maps
Ah, ja das ist genau das Video was ich gern in dem Artikel gehabt hätte. Schade dass es nicht verlinkt war. Aber das schaffen wir bestimmt auch noch 😅
A graph of the timeline of Trump’s second term trade war
The President responded to yesterday’s SCOTUS ruling that his IEEPA tariffs were illegal with new 10% tariffs based Section 122, yet that still left a net ~3 percentage point reduction in average tariff rates. Tariffs on imports from countries like Brazil or Vietnam were reduced significantly.
NEW from me:
Yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling was the largest pushback on Trump’s trade war
Even though Trump imposed a new 10% tariff, it resulted in a 3% reduction in overall tariff rates, a large restriction in his tariff powers, and possibly >$150B in refunds🧵
