Most segregation research examines neighborhoods, schools, or workplaces separately. But do individuals' exposure align across domains and persist over the life course? We fill this gap using 27 years of 🇸🇪 data.

There's a narrative that because the bivariate correlation between education spending and student test scores is small/null, education spending doesn't matter.

But causal research has begun to show that this simple association is probably biased downward. Education spending matters a lot.

‘Tremendous uncertainty’ for cancer research as US officials target mRNA vaccines Amid Trump cuts and state-level backlash, experts worry that progress in messenger RNA vaccines could stall

Over 120 mRNA cancer trials are now at risk as the Trump admin cuts funding & tells researchers to scrub “mRNA” from grant proposals.

What started as COVID fearmongering is now derailing life-saving cancer research.

Hope remains - but scientists say time is running out.

In our new #OA article, we studied the drivers of ethnic school segregation.
Research on segregation often points to parental preferences, but what if it's not just about what parents want, but also what options they actually have?

A French scientist was denied entry into the US because he expressed a negative opinion of Donald Trump and his policies

The US is NOT safe for researchers anymore

I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few months from now, several countries officially discourage their citizens from visiting the US

Let’s just assume No Child is Left Behind. Let’s just believe Every Student Succeeds. Let’s just trust all states have high standards.

George W Bush once condemned “the soft bigotry of low expectations.” This is the hard bigotry of no expectations.

Since mathematics is a classroom-intensive subject it could explain why this increase is only seen in mathematics and not natural sciences. But then again, TIMSS should not change over time in test criteria, right?

However, given that Sweden is the only Nordic country to increase its score since 2019 I am slightly suspicious that any change in the test (any lowering of standard in test criteria) would have benefitted Sweden given that the schools were kept open during the pandemic.

Sweden is now apparently the best Nordic country in mathematics according to the new TIMSS study. The targeted efforts on the core subjects in the school system have probably paid off.
