how many companies have now bet on smart glasses? stop trying to make smart glasses happen!
Really boosting the accessory market for "taser containing iphone case"
A taser would require extra hardware. How about the battery just overheats in your pocket?
The Tech Team at ACLU is hiring! We are looking for a Data Scientist with expertise in NLP and AI ethics to work on using language tech to support ACLU's mission. Come help us tackle questions about how AI systems can be carefully applied to support the public interest. www.aclu.org/careers/appl...
or, only moderately mean until you pay him to be savage, if that's the kinda thing you're into :)
most insane payment structure i've ever seen. the app is mean to you unless you pay them.

🧑🎨🤖 HCI x AI supply chains ⛓️ Join us at our CHI'26 meetup!
If you design AI-powered applications, we can start asking together which parts of the supply chains (e.g., APIs, data pipelines, hardware infra) behind these applications we should account for as HCI practitioners and researchers.

"AI as a War Issue, War as a Workers' Issue"
Couldn't be more clear than this headline. @tisjune.bsky.social, @shreyachowdhary.bsky.social, and @nathanckim.bsky.social share their reflections on Organizing Against the Machine 👇
Austin is better now, but still check the day before.
Pittsburgh: show up 10 mins before, say hi to the 5 people in line ahead of you
Austin: I showed up at 3:30AM for a 6AM flight, got through security at 7:30AM
I think my AI beliefs are quickly becoming ‘this has enormous positive potential if implemented responsibly. it will not be implemented responsibly and like maybe five companies are even trying.’
"This is an automated response"
lol
cool -> *school, but UO was pretty cool its true
Academic freedom is under dire threat in Texas - we (in Texas) and all (across the US and world) must stand up for this.
As someone who could only afford to go to the in-state flagship cool in my state, the targeting of UT Austin for destruction by the legislature-governor-provost makes me so sad.
Hi Lori, thanks for doing this. In case you want further support for this - I think you'd ben interested in our AAUP report showing how little faculty are involved in such procurement/ university AI policies across the US, and the dangers thereof, may help:

when people ask why I have a 5 year old phone with a cracked screen and a 20 minute battery life :)
Your job: answering emails from FAccT ACs locked out of openreview, wrangling unhinged reviews, wrangling unhinged authors, giving great talks
One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
Tech execs provide their kids with liberal arts education to ensure their futures—-all while many state schools are becoming all STEM. www.wsj.com/lifestyle/ca...
but its ✨civic✨
Students feel like they can’t enroll in majors like Af-Am Studies and WGSS because they’re getting messages from all sides that they’re not remunerative. And yet they desperately want the knowledge, so classes are full. That seems to be the situation everywhere.
These are “low enrollment” majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.
"how openai *doesn't* make money"
what a lovely opportunity:)
The UNC Board of Governors is rewriting the definition of academic freedom, which threatens to limit critical inquiry and chill speech across campuses.
@ncaaup.bsky.social is fighting back: over 1,300 signed the petition demanding the BOG drop this policy.

I admit when someone asks what kind of milk I want I still have a moment of "what do you mean? normal milk!?" before realizing that oatmilk exists
