Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..
Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.
This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.
44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.

March 8, 2026 - Tehran at sunrise today. But the sun is hidden behind a sky filled with smoke. After a night of intensive strikes on oil facilities, thick black clouds now hang over the city, turning morning into something that feels like night.

When AI is described as a partner for emotional regulation, something important is left out: a machine can perform conversation, but it cannot share history, accountability, or mutual vulnerability. What AI offers is not replacement, it is a simulation shaped by design goals and incentives. 4/*

Image of a screenshot of news headline, saying, "WhatsApp is getting ads using personal data from Instagram and Facebook
Forced Consent & Consent Bypass
/
16 June 2025
Meta announced today that it also wants to introduce ads on WhatsApp, which will be based on personal data from Facebook and Instagram. This further integrates WhatsApp into other Meta services - an originally independent app, which initially was available for just $1 per year without ads or data usage. This also means that Meta is consolidating its social networking monopoly. EU law was actually supposed to prevent this."
Use Signal. We promise, no AI clutter, and no surveillance ads, whatever the rest of the industry does. <3

The idea that human cognition is, or can be understood as, a form of computation is a useful conceptual tool for cognitive science. It was a foundational assumption during the birth of cognitive science as a multidisciplinary field, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one of its contributing fields. One conception of Al in this context is as a provider of computational tools (frameworks, concepts, formalisms, models, proofs, simulations, etc.) that support theory building in cognitive science. The contemporary field of Al, however, has taken the theoretical possibility of explaining human cognition as a form of computation to imply the practical feasibility of realising human(-like or -level) cognition in factual computational systems; and, the field frames this realisation as a short-term inevitability. Yet, as we formally prove herein, creating systems with human(-like or -level) cognition is intrinsically computationally intractable.
🚨Our paper `Reclaiming AI as a theoretical tool for cognitive science' is now forthcoming in the journal Computational Brain & Behaviour. (Preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...)

A wooly goat, its eyes invisible, two simple horns curling back from its head
A ram in need of sheering, its eyes invisible, its horns curling beside its head.
It can often be difficult to tell Sheep (right) and Goats (left) apart, but to the trained eye there's an obvious difference:
While both commit Crimes, only Goats are aware that their actions are wrong, and are thus capable of Sin.

It's important to know that when tech bros say they are "data driven" what they mean by "data" is their own experience and the assumptions.
This is why you regularly hear things like "UBI will destroy society" and "if you give away housing no one will work" despite all studies showing the contrary.

Every review of AI is like: This isn’t very useful and it makes it harder to do simple tasks than if I just did it myself. Riddled with errors. Can’t see anyone using this. I feel stupider having tried this. That said I believe it will soon make human cognition redundant and eradicate us all.

5/5 This is one of digital governance's core paradox: systems built for unprecedented transparency become instruments of unprecedented erasure. Each deletion reminds us how the architecture of access contains within it the seeds of erasure #dataloss
