Yeah, "jettisoned" was probably the wrong word choice. But, he certainly had the resources to sign Alonso if he really wanted. I think Diaz wanted out and I think his effectiveness was on the decline (along with his velocity), so I don't blame Stearns for that one.

Taking my fan's perspective out of the equation for a moment, I actually feel bad for David Stearns. This is the worst possible scenario for him. Trade Robert Jr and Bichette for some low level prospects. Simien might get us a AAAA level reliever. No one else even has much value right now. I am ready to see Ewing, Morobito, Reimer, and Clifford. They can get 4 hits a game as much as this lineup.

I mean, other than Lindor, Soto, Alvarez, and Benge...is there anyone you want to keep on offense?
