Safe to say the Drone Unit understood the assignment.
Thank you to Scout Pack 847 for the invitation and for a fun evening with the community.
Deputy Bybee and our JCSO Drone Unit joined Scout Pack 847 for First Responder Night at Waterstone Church, and things took an unexpected turn.
What started as a drone demonstration quickly became a full-on drone dance party.
This recognition speaks to the kind of service Deputy Hammetter brings to this job and to this community. We’re grateful for his courage, proud to have him at JCSO, and honored to see him recognized in this way. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved award.
Without knowing when backup would arrive, he made the decision to move toward the threat & act immediately to protect others. He put the safety of students, staff, and the Evergreen community ahead of his own, and his bravery and sound judgment helped prevent the situation from becoming even worse.
He was selected for this award because of the courage and decisive action he showed during the active shooter incident at Evergreen High School on September 10, 2025. As the first law enforcement officer on scene, Deputy Hammetter was faced with an armed suspect who had already injured students.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Jeffcom 911 honored JCSO Deputy Hammetter as Law Responder of the Year during the sixth annual Jeffcom 911 awards celebration.
Thank you to Troop 66533 for your generosity and for thinking of our team. We plan for a lot of things, but 94 boxes of cookies was an especially welcome development.
The troop donated 94 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to our Office of Emergency Management through the Hometown Heroes program, which helps girls learn philanthropy and community service through the cookie program.

We are grateful for Sergeant Pocsik’s continued service and proud to see him step into this leadership role. Congratulations, Sergeant Pocsik.
His connection to JCSO also runs deep. His mother previously served with the Sheriff’s Office, and his father currently serves as a commander in Detentions. That legacy of service makes this promotion especially meaningful.
Sergeant Pocsik has distinguished himself through exceptional leadership, professionalism, and a strong commitment to the mission of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. His dedication to service and high standard of excellence continue to strengthen our agency and the community we serve.

The task force focuses on reducing the presence of illegal drugs within the community by investigating drug trafficking organizations, distribution networks, and illegal marijuana operations, with an emphasis on identifying and sanctioning those responsible for supplying controlled substances.
The West Metro Drug Task Force is a collaborative, multi-agency effort that brings together investigators from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Golden, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge Police Departments.
In January, a search warrant on Covelli’s home led to the seizure of the following:
60 lbs. crystalline MDMA
11,000 2CB pills
100 lbs. psychedelic mushrooms
55 grams ketamine
31,000 MDMA pills
40 grams cocaine
60,000 LSD tablets
8 firearms
18 LSD liquid vials
1 pill press
13,000 MDA pills
The WMDTF began an investigation to confirm the suspected behavior and ultimately arranged several purchases between Covelli and an undercover detective.
In November of 2025, the WMDTF received an anonymous tip that Covelli was dealing drugs in the city of Wheat Ridge, selling large quantities of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, and LSD.
Additionally, he faces eight charges of illegal possession of a weapon and two misdemeanors for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Covelli will be extradited back to Jefferson County for court proceedings.
Covelli is being held on 35 counts including nine level one drug felonies, seven level two drug felonies, and nine level three drug felonies for possession with intent to distribute.

Major Drug Bust and Arrest for Drug Task Force
The West Metro Drug Task Force (WMDTF) has made a significant arrest and drug seizure after a months-long investigation. Investigators tracked the suspect, 25-year-old Hunter Covelli, to Walworth County, Wisconsin, where he turned himself in yesterday.
