I’m drawing inspo from 1910s-1920s aesthetics, specifically magazine covers to get the right vibe. I was struggling a bit with just drawing the characters themselves without much to do. Bonus: Quincy cannot take a single thing seriously. Self-preservation instincts of a walnut.

The first time I witnessed someone get abducted was Sunday, December 14th, 2025. ICE left behind his wife and an infant child in the car. The family was going to church. "We pulled over, but then they told us they would take us too if we did anything. We have our own baby in the back seat." None of us knew what to do. No one tells you how useless you feel when someone is taken.

The next abduction I witnessed was a couple weeks later. Both times, I hadn't even gotten out of bed yet when I heard the whistles. I was better at responding the second time. There's not a lot you can do except make noise and be annoying. I'm good at being annoying. At this point, being annoying is liable to get you shot or tear gassed or blinded. It is what it is.

Focusing on anything but the occupation has been difficult. That's what I've come to call it now--an occupation. What else do you call a bunch of soldier bullies driving around the streets trying to find people to kidnap? I try to be more present for my friends and neighbors. "Hey, do you have some time to drop off some donations this weekend?" "Yeah, I'll do a Costco run!" "I've got some blankets and coats to donate." "I can come pick them up tomorrow! You guys need anything from the store?"

"Is anyone available to watch the bus stop?" "I can!" [An image of two people at a bus stop. They're both wearing whistles.] A news article clipping: ICE detains 4 Colombia Heights students, including 5- and 10-year-olds sent to Texas. Colombia Heights Public Schools leaders addressed the ICE surge into the district, saying the community is "shattered." And they say they're "catching criminals." Sure.

Madi tries to look out a frosted over window “it’s January 18th and I have to head into Minneapolis for a comic show. I’m regretting this choice almost as soon as I wake up. It’s so cold that my windows have frosted over and I can’t see out of them. When I check my app it says it’s about -5 degrees f “

Madi drives with the heat blasting “ I bundle up in as many layers as I have. Double scarves, winter gloves and wool lined boots. I clear frost off the car in record time, it takes me seconds, not minutes. Even so, my fingers are numb before I even get into my car, it takes 15 minutes with the heat blasting before I can feel them again”

Madi trudges through the snow “I don’t have to walk terribly far after I park. But the snow is needed like and painful. By the time I get to the door I’m crying and snotty.” Madi is crying

Madi looks at her phone, a man is being dragged by ice from his home wearing nothing but a short blanket hastily covering his shoulders but not his chest or legs, boxers, and crocs “ I finally get home and check into the news. Immediately I see a photo of a man not far from me who was taken from his home by ice today. They didn’t let him out on any clothes before dragging him out into the cold. And I think about frosted windows, numb fingers, and needle like snow”

I decided I needed fantasy OCs! Lord Fenris Norwind, (unofficially) exiled to the north of his kingdom after his half brother inherited the throne- and his boyfriend, Mouse Thistlekin, an elven Druid whose vow of peace and love and nature doesn’t mean he can’t commit crimes.

Back in college I used to make Hinterlands stickers and charms for myself. Mostly so I could pretend it was a real fandom (and I didn’t have to wait for myself to do stuff as the creator).
