Ten years ago, a faculty colleague of mine was targeted for something he tweeted about Trump being tried for treason. Fascists literally circled our campus, my colleague had to leave town to keep his kids safe, etc.
Whenever our president tweets out a genocide threat, I think about that colleague.
Mark your calendars for a talk by Dr. Amy Fallas on revolution and modern Egypt! “An Inequitable Unity: Egyptian Nationalism, Religious Difference, and the Fragmented Afterlives of Revolution” will go on April 22, 12pm, in the History Library (4217 SSH). Please RSVP below:

Why are ppl acting like the us has not already committed innumerable war crimes in Iran? Shocked because he used profanities in a tweet? Embarrassed because this is beneath “America”? Get a life
How do historians center refugee voices within institutional archives? I recently read Refugee Voices in Modern Global History, a new book that untangles the power structures of 20th century refugeedom. A vital contribution for grad seminars & anyone in the field. www.tandfonline.com/eprint/ZPANP...
What the hell?? USraelis bombed the National (Shahid Beheshti) University in Tehran and destroyed its main building and a women’s dormitory??! National University is a stronghold of social sciences and humanities and many of my closest colleagues and friends teach there. This makes no sense…

"Hezbollah exercises a defensive role that the LAF was never mandated to perform, was never politically authorized to pursue, and has rarely attempted to carry out."
Important piece contextualizing Israel's illegal bombings and the role of Lebanese resistance.

New — I collected stories from travelers at airports around the country on Monday after ICE agents were deployed to help TSA. No one understood beforehand why they would be there, and after a day with them around, it’s no more clear.
Read the multi-city dispatches:
Taking photos like it's pokemon go. #EWR
I'm currently at EWR and the ICE assholes seem to be posted up at the terminal doors blocking foot traffic.
So it has begun
Berkeley wants to give their data to ICE
This is exactly the mistake UCLA made and all it did was lead to escalating demands, and provide greater ammunition for new federal attacks on academic freedom. Utterly shameful that a year and change into the Trump administration university leaders still can't see the writing on the wall.
This is an extraordinarily bad decision and it will immediately be used to mount a political witch hunt against Middle East studies faculty, our teaching, research, and to demonize our communities.
Shame on you @uofcalifornia.bsky.social for codifying this racism.

This is an exceptional @uofcalifornia.bsky.social educational resource, for anyone who is learning, teaching, or starting conversations about Anti-Palestinian Racism on campus. There's a video + a number of scholarly resources to advance good conversation.

Today's best archival moment was the one where the guy next to me found his great uncle.
He'd been looking for him in some WWI papers for a couple of weeks, I suppose, and today he finally found him!
This policy exists because of off-campus PAC lobbying.
Its entire purpose is to enable the same off-campus PACs to bully Arab and Muslim students on campus.
It those are the ONLY instances I've seen it used. In both intention/execution, the policy is racist. A lawsuit waiting to happen.
As far as I know the UCOP -imposed anti mask policy has only been used in student disciplinary settings ONCE on my campus.
And it was to challenge SJP's right to exercise their 1A right to public expression... Unsuccessfully, bc it's discriminatory application painfully easy to prove.
Great piece on the campus "mask bans," the clearest example of the @uofcalifornia.bsky.social's active collusion w/ anti-Palestinian racist organizations.
These bans were rolled out as direct result of political lobbying, w/o any study of adverse impact.

Israel is bombing Beirut.
"Iran’s aim now seems to be not to secure victory but to raise the war's cost to prohibitive levels. What follows is a strategy of endurance and attrition. The Islamic Republic has prepared for the possibility that the US and Israel might opt for direct confrontation."
