I don’t think you’re wrong about why the team is cracking down on this now though. It almost certainly goes back to that guy.

The MLS policy is pretty clear and was developed in collaboration with SGs around the league. The policy in question is solely a CITY policy. Their rule about “pertaining to the event” is unnecessary when the league policy on what’s approved is straight forward.
